US President-elect Barack Obama confirmed on Monday that former campaign rival Hillary Rodham Clinton is his choice for secretary of state

Obama introduced Clinton first, saying of his former presidential rival, 'She possesses an extraordinary intelligence and toughness, and a remarkable work ethic. ... She is an American of tremendous stature who will have my complete confidence, who knows many of the world's leaders, who will command respect in every capital, and who will clearly have the ability to advance our interests around the world.'

Clinton will give up her seat as a You S senator from New York to join the Obama Cabinet. Her appointment was preceded by lengthy negotiations involving her husband, the former president, whose international business connections posed potential conflicts of interests.

The former president also agreed to disclose the donors to the foundation that built his library, as well as contributors to his international foundation

Sorry mate... I thought you were 'visiting' a friend... as in a girl... :) Anyway, I should do a visit to Adelaide, i hear it's very laid back... can't be more laid back than Canberra though! :)

Yes, Adelaide is more or less like Canberra.. very laid back.. Calm and quiet... something which I like... I can' stand Sydney and Melbourne, that is why I left Melbourne....:))

Yeah, that's what the Canberrians say all the time! They love it there... I might make a move later on down there... it's a nice place to raise a family... I even looked at some property in Ford (that new suburb up north), but nothing is decided yet! There's so much new development in and around Gungahlin, it's hard to believe there's sooo much demand for those houses!

Also, the Reserve Bank just slashed our rates by 1%, it's 4.25 per cent now.

Yes, Canberra is a good place for families with young kids. That is what everyone says here... In our office, people come to office after dropping there kids to school and then they take the kids from school at 3.00pm.. then come back to work again. You can't do that in Sydney. I live 15kms away from my work place, and only takes 15-18mins to travel during 8.30-9.15am..

Other thing is if ou can work in government sector, then you can start early 7.00am and leave at 3.00pm... very flexible... no need to find for day care centers for children., That is what my friends do here.

Aussie boy and toyota - working in canberra you need to be working in the right fields. for example, if you are in financial services, law etc ... sydney and melb is where the action is i am afraid. but i have friends there too and agree they have a much more laid back lifestyle.

Toyota,

Yeah, I used to work in Canberra... I lived about 10-15 minutes away from work... played sport during lunch (touch footy on tuesday, soccer on thursday) and cricket after work (on wednesday)... went for walks on sundays... and I did a 9 to 5 job... anything extra, i got time-in-leu for it. :)

Now, i work from 8:30am to 6:30pm on a trading floor, and it takes about 1 hour to get home, which includes a long crowded train ride... And no leave. But anyway, the plan is to do this while i'm young and settle down into a more relaxed job later on, probably in Canberra...
