Prabhakaran : OH, WHAT A LIAR !!
Only a colossal idiot could believe the lies and pious platitudes in the speech delivered by the thug Prabhakaran last Thursday. If such an idiot does exist, he would be left with the belief that Prabhakaran is the very personification of virtue, who abhors violence, and stands much higher in the index of virtue than Mother Theresa !!
Apart from his diatribe against the Sinhalese people, the essential message that Prabhakaran sought to convey is that he, being dedicated to peace, is ever ready to engage in 'peace talks . The unspoken premise on which this lie is based is that there must be an immediate cease-fire as a pre-requisite for such talks !!
While Prabhakaran contends that all previous 'Peace Talks were used by the Government to strengthen itself for a renewed war against the LTTE, the indisputable facts prove the contrary. Let us remind ourselves of those facts.
The first ceasefire was that attendant upon the 'Thimphu talks for which the LTTE came arm in arm in purported brotherhood with 5 other Tamil Groups, namely, the TULF, PLOTE, EROS, EPRLF and TELO. Those 'Brothers scuttled those 'Talks unilaterally and walked out together. In the meantime the LTTE had so used the ceasefire to strengthen themselves, that on their return to Sri Lanka, they first turned their guns on those 'Brothers , and thereafter on our forces. The LTTE so used that ceasefire to strengthen themselves that they gained virtually total control of the Jaffna peninsula rendering 'Operation Liberation necessary.
The second ceasefire was declared unilaterally by Lalith Athulathmudali from the 11th to the 17th April 1987, for the Sinhala/Tamil New Year. The LTTE reciprocated by ambushing three buses at Kithuluttuwa in the Polonnaruwa district, separating the Sinhalese passengers from the others and murdering every one of them 127 in all.
The third ceasefire was imposed by India in terms of the so called Indo Lanka Accord. The LTTE, which pretended to surrender arms
while surrendering only their defective and unusable arms
used the confinement of our troops to barracks in terms of that ceasefire to engage in an anti Sinhalese/Muslim pogrom by murdering about 200 Sinhalese and Muslim civilians along the Eastern seaboard between the 1st and 7th October 1987.
The fourth ceasefire was declared by President Premadasa from the 1st June 1989 and another set of 'Peace Talks commenced. The LTTE used that ceasefire to strengthen themselves
partly with arms idiotically gifted to them by Premadasa
. Predictably they foully abrogated that ceasefire by surrounding and attacking all police stations in the east on the 11th June 1990 and murdering about 678 unarmed police officers who had laid down arms and surrendered to them.
The extent to which the LTTE used that ceasefire to strengthen themselves and plan to re-commence their terrorism while our Government 'slept with child-like trust was proved by the fact that within 7 days of so abrogating that ceasefire, the LTTE attacked 20 police stations and 18 army camps in 8 districts, overrunning 13 police stations and causing 4 army camps to be evacuated, and murdered 1120 security force personnel
including those Police Officers
.
Another irrefutable pointer to the extent to which the LTTE used that ceasefire to strengthen themselves and prepare for war while our Government 'slept , is the fact that the LTTE, which had been unable, until that ceasefire, to over-run a single army, navy or air force camp however small, was able, after that ceasefire, to over-run many. The army camps at Kokavil, Mankulam, Katupotha, Janakapura, Iddaikadu and Pooneryn and the naval base at Nagathevanthurai are some of them. In addition they laid siege for several weeks on the army camps at Kiran, Mullaitivu, Elephant Pass, Jaffna Fort and Mandativu which had to be relieved by troops from outside.
The fifth ceasefire was declared by President Kumaratunga from January 1995. Predictably, the LTTE put that ceasefire to 'good use and foully abrogated it unilaterally, by sinking two naval gun-boats anchored at Trincomalee, murdering 12 sailors and thereafter murdered 264 members of the security forces and 57 civilians in 27 separate attacks over the next 39 days. Further, they had, during that ceasefire acquired the capability (which they never had earlier) of bringing down aircraft with surface to air missiles and brought down two Avro aircraft with such missiles on the 28th and 29th April 1994 murdering 99 per sons including two journalists.
The 6th and hopefully last ceasefire was that imposed by Ranil Wickremesinghe in 2002. The manner in which the LTTE violated that ceasefire, murdered security force personnel, Tamil informants and political opponents, 'acquired and fortified territory at Manirasakulam and Sampur, shut off water at the Mavil Aru anicut and committed mass murder of unarmed soldiers and sailors by the explosion of Claymore mines are fresh in our memory.
The imposition of a ceasefire once more would be an act of national suicide. As the recent acts of terrorism in Mumbai
which are relatively trivial when compared to those committed in Sri Lanka
confirms, terrorists such as the LTTE are vermin and must be exterminated.
