President to meet Pope today
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to meet Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican today during a brief visit to Italy.
Rajapaksa was to arrive in the Italian capital, Rome, early Sunday accompanied by his wife, Shiranthi, Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and Foreign Minister, Rohitha Bogollagama on an unofficial visit.
He was not expected to meet Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi or Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, during his two-day visit on his way to Turkey.
It will be the president's second visit to Italy this year since he attended the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation's food summit in Rome in June. |

The guy is trying to stay out of the country as much as possible.
He is worried about the Decapitation by the LTTE. This man is a coward, instead of going to the battle front he is running away.
Chandrika did the same thing. It is about how much he can loot and how much he can plunder. |
