Air Force Launches Several Air Raids on LTTE Positions
KILINOCHCHI: FIGHTER JETS and MI-24 Helicopter Gunships of Sri Lanka Air Force launched several air raids on LTTE positions on Friday (28) night and Saturday (29) early morning.
The Fighter Jets pounded on LTTE heavy gun positions in PARANTHAN area on Friday (28) evening.
Fighter Jets again raided an LTTE training camp in the general area of PIRAMANTHALKULAM early this morning (29). Another air raid was carried out by MI 24 Helicopter Gunships on an LTTE position south of ADAMPAN advancing .
Air Force confirmed that the air raids were successful.
Two More Families from Un-cleared areas Reach VAVUNIYA
VAVUNIYA: THREE MORE males and three females belonging to two families from un-cleared areas of NEDUNKERNI and SINNAADAMPAN arrived in the OMANTHAI Entry/Exit point seeking protection this afternoon (29).
After initial inquiries, they were to be sent to IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) centres.
Search and Clear Operation nets LTTE Suspects.
BATTICALOA: POLICE ASSISTED by Army and Special Task Force (STF) cordoned several areas in BATTICALOA and conducted a Combined search operation throughout the day time on Saturday (29).
Security Forces and Police were compelled to conduct this special cordon and search operation in the wake of a series of murders and criminal acts including the most recent killing of the medical officer.
Following intelligence information about presence of a few LTTE infiltrators, these combined cordon and search operations were conducted in BATTICALOA, ERAVUR, VALACHCHENAI, KARADIYANARU, VAKARAI, AITHIYAMALAI, VAVUNATHIVU, KOKKADICHOLAI, KATTANKUDI and KALAWANCHIKUDI.
Police questioned 11963 persons out of which 123 were detained for further inquiries. Three more suspects believed to have connections to the LTTE were also arrested during the search.
The operation ended by this evening around 06.00 p.m.
Five More Tiger Copses Handed Over to ICRC
VAVUNIYA: DEAD bodies of five LTTE terrorists who were killed in the confrontations in PADAVIYA and JANAKAPURA areas, including four male and one female corpses were handed over to the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in VAVUNIYA around 11.15 a.m. on Saturday (29). They were taken to un-cleared areas via OMANTHE Entry/Exit point to be handed over to the LTTE.
STF Attacks Terrorists & Recovers Military Items
BATTICALOA: MEMBERS of the Special Task Force (STF) troops serving in BATTICALOA observed a group of terrorists moving along the SANTHIMALAI, UNNACHCHI road in BATTICALOA around 2.15 p.m. on Friday (28). STF troops opened fire at the terrorist group who fled the area leaving some explosive devices and communications equipment behind.
During subsequent search, one claymore mine weighing about 5 kgs, one hand grenade, four anti personnel mines, one wire role, one large pack, one belt order, one communication set and one exploder were recovered by the troops.
Search Operations are on to Trace Four Soldiers Missing in Flood Affected Kerathivu
JAFFNA: STORMY weather prevailed in JAFFNA last few days caused heavy damages to roads and houses. JAFFNA-BASED Security Forces throughout assisting civil authorities in rescue and other humanitarian missions.
In the meantime, four soldiers who were stranded in flood have gone missing while they were serving in KERATHIVU, JAFFNA.
Search operations to trace them commenced.
More Recoveries Made
BATTICALOA: SECURITY Forces on search and clear operations in the general area of THOPPIGALA, BATTICALOA recovered two I-com sets, two claymore mines, fourteen detonators, one Improvise Explosive Device, seven anti personnel mines and 1.5 kg of C-4 explosives on Friday (28).
Meanwhile, troops operating in the general area of ANDANKULUM, WELIOYA also recovered seventy eight anti-personal mines.
More Tiger Positions under Attack
MULLAITTIVU: TROOPS operating in the general area of KUMULAMUNAI confronted a group of Tiger terrorists on Friday (28) afternoon.
Troops confirmed that terrorists suffered casualties in the attack.
Army Captured Otiyamalai
MULLAITTIVU: TROOPS of the 59 Division advancing in MULLAITTIVU district captured OTIYAMALAI village about 5 kms east of NEDUNKERNI after fierce fighting this afternoon (29).
During the confrontations to capture OTIYAMALAI the LTTE terrorists suffered heavy loses and fled the area leaving behind some terrorist dead bodies and a large stock of arms and ammunition.
In a search followed by the battle, troops recovered four terrorist dead bodies and a stock of weapons from the area.
