Meanwhile resentment has started to set in in the rank and file of the LTTE following Prabhakaran's speech and the attacks in Mumbai. Although many cadres are unaware of the geopolitics or the actual attack in Mumbai, they were eagerly awaiting a cease-fire brokered by their friends in India. Radio communications monitored lately indicate that the rank and file have lost hope of an Indian involvement and a sad acknowledgement has set in that no one is there to rescue them.

We have one thing to tell the Indians. WE HATE WHAT YOU DID TO SRI LANKA BUT THANK YOU FOR CREATING A HIGHLY CAPABLE ANTI TERRORISM FORCE IN SRI LANKA WHICH IS SECOND TO NONE-- NOT EVEN YOURS. If your Black Cats cannot do it, we will-- if you want us to.
We remember in 2001, when the Katunayake airbase and civilian airport came under a similar LTTE attack, the Sri Lanka Army's Commando Regiment responded to that challenge with flying colours. The then Army Commander told the CO of the Commandos at 10pm that day to clear the airbase of terrorists and secure the entire area TWICE before his arrival at 1.00am.
The Commandos swung into action and by 12pm, all 16 Tigers hiding inside buildings, hangars etc were dead. In the massive attack launched by the Commandos, one suicide tiger had, in utter fright, released excrement onto the baggage conveyor-belt at the VIP section of the Bandaranaike airport before being shot to death on the spot.

What is this, hallo! Never knew that the Tamil Nadu state government had a Minister for Backward Classes Welfare.
Any 24-carat Marxist would be horrified at the thought that a government should acknowledge the class system.
Of course there aren't any 24-carat Marxists around any longer it seems. Our Communist Party has virtually disappeared with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the loss of their air season tickets on Aeroflot and the ability to fly to Moscow every couple of months, apparently for medical treatment. Well, I always felt they needed to have their heads examined for being committed supporters of Joe Stalin et al, that is until the free tickets lasted.
Fig leaf politics
The LSSP, the totem carriers of Leon T's permanent revolution is hardly heard of these days and only provide historical footnotes though Vasu and Bahu soldier on with a revolutionary ardour -- in their fashion, naturally.
So with nobody to raise their voices against a class system that is being perpetuated by the Tamil Nadu state while screaming of discrimination elsewhere, their fig leaf politics continues.
News reports said that K.K. Ramachandran, the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare visited Sri Lankan refugee camps in Virudunagar the other day to inquire about the life of the people there.
It seems this solicitous concern of Tamil Nadu politicians for Tamil refugees in the state while touching, is not one that is sustained though sustainable if need be. It appears to have been brought on by recent political developments in the southern Indian state where politicians who threaten to resign if the central government fails to meet their demands, suddenly suffer from bouts of amnesia.
So when the deadline for their resignations is upon them they do find ways of forgetting their attempts at hostage-taking and continue regardless.

I saw these commandos trying to kill terrorists by hurling grenades from launchers outside the hotel. they dont know that by doing this they are actually performing one of the missions of the terrorists themselves, causing maximum damages to the premises, terras wanted to blast the taj hotel down. |

No end to war, only more deaths: Mangala the only Sinhalaya talks facts these days...Sunday Times 30/11/2008
In November last year the Defence Secretary made a public announcement that LTTE leader Prabhakaran would be celebrating his last birthday in 2007 but this year too nothing has been changed.
This clearly shows that this war sees no end, just a huge number of casualties reported from both sides, said MP Mangala Samaraweera, leader of the SLFP (M) party.
Mr. Samaraweera said this at the weekly media briefing of Defence Watch. He said that terrorism has spread around the country and even if the LTTE leader is killed there would be more Prabhakarans to continue with the war under an ideal setting created by our politicians.
The Government is using the security forces to achieve political victory. The intention is to get some soldiers to stand near a board bearing the name Kilinochchi , take a photograph there and deceive the public in order to dissolve Parliament and have fresh elections, he said.
He added that the Human Rights Watch has stated that the East is drifting towards a disastrous situation with a considerable number of people dying. The East is ruled by the Pillayan s, Karuna s and Gotabhaya s terrorism, he said.

Lanka may face intl. credit suspension
By Paneetha Ameresekere
Sri Lanka's existing international credit lines may be suspended and even if it could source credit internationally, it might be at a premium, the local head of a credit rating agency told The Sunday Leader in light of Friday's Supreme Court (SC) interim order against oil hedging.
The SC suspended the state owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) from making hedge payments on contracts with banks on a Fundamental Rights (FR) plea. Head of Fitch Rating Lanka, Chanaka Wickramasuriya said that in the light of Friday's court order, there is a possibility of credit lines drying up, particularly to the CPC whose operations depend heavily on seeking international credit from commercial markets, or the premiums charged being raised, essentially raising CPC's borrowing costs.

I was wondering whether they were trying to protect the building as it is a heritage building. |
