From where ? UR SC made sure that no foreign bank will again loan to GOSL !
Saying the country was about to face a severe economic crisis which would also affect the banking sector, the JVP Thursday charged the Central Bank was about to pump in funds from the foreign reserves to save the situation.
JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti told a news conference yesterday this was the reason for the government to issue a circular to all ministries, provincial councils and state departments to halt all development projects which were not bound by contracts, cancel all orders for purchases and not to sign agreements which would increase the recurrent expenditure.
He also explained the circular which had been issued by the Secretary, Ministry of Finance has not specifically mentioned the kind of capital expenditure it had decided to limit and therefore charged that there might be moves to halt all purchases made for security purposes.
Handunnetti charged the state officers would not enter into any agreement in the future as per circular involving additional recurrent expenditure.
The government had clearly exhibited through this circular its inability to face the impending economic crisis, he said. He also charged the government had placed an extra burden on the people by increasing taxes in the budget, just a day after it issued the circular to limit the expenditures.
He said the government should have cut down the unnecessary expenses such as giving perks to the jumbo cabinet. In this regard he explained that there were 26 ministers who own houses in Colombo and still claim the monthly housing allowance of Rs. 100,000. The party warned that it would take to the streets to protest if the government fails to cancel this circular immediately.
