Chandrakanthan laments that only a few cabinet ministers in the district are directly involved in the ongoing development projects in the province.

That is understandable given that this is not an independent election but one that was made up for quick win. It's better not to play catch up but rather to use 'project' based administration on business basis - however small this may seem.

During Tsunami Reconstruction, I went to Batticaloa on the understanding that I would supervise the contruction of 50 homes. But through a combination of active administration and reality of majority power - I ended up getting approval for reconstruction of Sri Sithi Vinayagar temple and now am helping through schools of human values. Given that Pillayan came to power through military force led by North - he would not have inner faith and self confidence to lead without their participation and endorsement. At best he could just be MR's messenger - for better or for worse. Batticaloa is still under military grip. Other projects would take time and would need to be on progarm basis if undertaken by Pillayan or needs to be given out on contract to those outside the war - not just ourside the country but in the war - and I mean foreign politicians.

39 Sri Lankan ministers, cabinet and outside, live in the houses owned by their relatives and rob the tax payers or rather loans or aid from foreign institutions like WB or ADB.
Thirty nine government cabinet and non cabinet ministers as well as deputy ministers are to receive 100,000 rupees a month as house rent, even though they are living in houses belonging to their relatives or friends. This will cost 3.9 million rupees a month to the exchequer, and the Treasury has to spend around 47 million rupees annually. This was revealed to the house consequent to a question posed by JVP MP Ranaweera Pathirana. According to the State Administrative Circular 10/2007, cabinet ministers, non cabinet ministers and deputy ministers who have not been provided with houses are eligible to obtain 100,000 rupees as house rent.
