Chennai, 20 November, : A day after Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi dared AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa to file a defamation suit against him, she sent legal notice to Karunanidhi on Wednesday seeking an unconditional apology for alleging that she had instigated the law college clashes recently. Karunanidhi should tender an unconditional apology in writing for alleging that the hand of the leader of opposition is involved in the clashes in the Ambedkar Law College campus last week or be sued for Rs.1 crore to be paid for defaming Jayalalitha,' her party lawyer Navaneethakrishnan told reporters.
On November 12, students of the law college had allegedly fought over the contents of an invitation for a political event. They attacked each other with sticks and iron rods while the police stayed simply as onlookers.
The Tamil Nadu government on November 13, suspended nine policemen and the college principal for failing to control the violent clash between students, and announced a probe into the incident by a retired Madras High Court judge.
Jayalalithaa s counsel said following the violent incidents, everybody criticised the government and the police officials who failed to control the violence in which three students were injured. As AIADMK chief and Leader of Opposition, Jayalalithaa had demanded Karunanidhi s resignation owning moral responsibility to the shocking incident.
Karunanidhi said Jayalalithaa had, earlier, made more serious allegations warranting as many number of defamation suits and that he was ready to face the case to be filed by the AIADMK leader |
