| Now on to what I believe are the President Rajapakse s plans for the future of Tamils in the north of the country. He is trying to push the LTTE to the northeastern parts of the Mullaithevu District (east of the A-9 Highway). Or, at least try to contain most of its conventional capability to that area. This effort would later be aided by a stringent naval blockade off the Mullaithevu coast, reconnaissance flights, selective air raids, and the use of DPU s to keep the pressure up. Once this goal is accomplished, President Rajapakse would be most likely to hold elections in the cleared areas to establish the Provincial Council in the north. Who would be the likely candidates for the CM job? Douglas Devananda? May be even bring back Varatharaja Perumal from his exile in India? Either one of them can make a good ally of India. If it looks like the application of a classic counterinsurgency strategy pulled off a text-book in India s military academies, well, it is. And, if Sarath Fonseka s men succeed in eliminating Prabakaran, many believers of the Mahinda Chinthanaya expect the demise of the LTTE itself (and even better, pretend that nothing really happed during the last 30 years). |

Sinhalese intellectual, Dr. W.Karunaratne (first class Engineering graduate) who can be said the most intelligent Sri Lnkan at present says MR wants to get near Kilinochchi but not inside.
Now Mahinda is planning to frighten Pirapaharan to convert him also to a puppet of Delhi. Apparently, Mahinda does not want to capture Kilinochchi. He only wants to go near and frighten the LTTE leader.'
'Discussions are made with downing of arms. Where do people discuss with arms aimed at each other. In any case, if discussions fail both parties will go back to arms. Therefore, it is idiotic to claim that discussions could start if only LTTE gives up arms.'
