CHENNAI: The all-party meeting convened by the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday called for a hartal on November 25 in Tamil Nadu to urge the Centre to intervene and ensure a ceasefire in Sri Lanka.
All the major parties including the DMK, AIADMK, Congress, CPI(M), DMDK and Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi stayed away from the meeting.

CHENNAI: Eleven hospital workers of the Government RSRM Lying-In Hospital at Royapuram were suspended on charges of corruption and extorting money from patients.
Seven ward boys and four ayahs were served their suspension notices for demanding and receiving money from patients in the surgery and labour ward.

I just did some reading on how other countries in the region deal with insurgencies.
One thing I came up with is following.
The other day I saw an AlJazeera program on this.
These govt sponsored vigis. carry out public executions even!

India is home to about 60 million Tamils, and their politicians for decades have had links to the LTTE. But after some shuttle diplomacy, India said it distinguished between military operations to eradicate the LTTE, which is on its own terrorism lists, and the need to address Tamil rights
That is the power of faith. The deeper we tap into it the greater our stability. Add the Tamils in Sri Lanka as well as in other countries to the above and compare with the total number of Sinhalese at the global level. |
