Funny you should say that. Just got back from SL after being away for 2 years. Pleasantly surprised at the improvement in infrastructure etc. Colombo was a lot cleaner and more organised. Businesses seemed well frequented and people seem to getting on.
Went to Galle, Kandy and Dambulla. Galle had been reconstructed.
Was in Dambulla when Pooneryn fell.. and firecrackers were lit. The mud huts I remember from a few years ago were brick structures with electricity etc. The roads were good.
Support is very strong for the government in the southern heartlands among people I spoke to. Only experienced a few complaints from some in Colombo. But all in all this goverment is a shoe in for the next election it seems.
Was surprised at the excellence of the war reporting on TV. The propaganda and attempts to keep up morale on TV were quite advanced and clever and very similar to what I saw during the gulf wars on american news channels.
All in all, more convinced than ever that the fates have aligned this time and this war will be over come what may.
