Bakz/Toyo daisy et all,
Mr Vaiko said the Lankan President had declined to declare ceasefire, within 48 hours after the Tamil Nadu Assembly adopted a resolution, calling for ceasefire. This was an affront and a challenge to the self respect of not only the seven crore Tamils, but the 100 crore Indians as well.

Apparently according to Vaiko, that Knidi is the Primeminister for India hahaha looks like he isn t lucky in Monopoly.. always in Jail.. maybe this time too hahaha

The Council employed bouncers and police officers had to enter the hall to bring calm. The organisers were able to resume the music programme. Whilst it was in progress for half an hour, an announcement was made suddenly to call off the event on the advice of the police. All were asked to leave the place.

According to local sources roads leading to the hall were barricaded by the police until midnight. A person attending the event said, number of people were treated at the site or taken to the hospital. The source also said three youngsters were arrested and taken away by the police.

Women sustain families

http://www.hindu.com/2008/11/17/stories/2008111758220300.htm

CHENNAI: In most homes in Semmanchery and Kannagi Nagar Slum Board tenements, it is the woman who ensures that there is enough food for the family.

Struggling to run microenterprises such as small petty shops, selling saris, supplying water cans, roadside eateries, growing plant cuttings for a nursery, selling flowers and grinding idly dough, each day is a battle for them.

Paawam...

UNP MP Rukman Senanayake called for the implementation of Tea for Oil pact with Middle East and Russia to save the declining tea industry. Senanayake made this call speaking during the debate on the second reading of the Budget in Parliament over the weekend. He said the government should go ahead with this pact as suggested by the Sri Lanka Tea Board and pointed out, One cannot save the tea industry by providing fertiliser for Rs. 1000 and giving concessions for export of tea bags .

The UNP MP said 47% of the Sri Lankan population which earns less than $2 a day will be the ones who would suffer as a result of this ineffective moves of the government
