Bakz/toyo et al
these are some bad effects of the power cuts up north of you ask me...
looks like bad planning...
TIRUNELVELI: Even as inflation is giving sleepless nights to all sections of the society, particularly to middle class and poor families, the unannounced power cut in effect across the State has robbed the children of their sleep, leaving every entire family in distress.
While the residents of Tirunelveli Corporation go without power on an average of 3 to 4 hours a day after the power cut came into effect, including an hour-long blackout anytime between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., electricity supply to rural areas such as Valliyoor, Nanguneri, Tenkasi, Alangulam, Ambasamudram and Sankarankovil is stopped for more than six hours a day, particularly for more than 2 hours during the night.
The most agonising aspect is that the undeclared power cut in the night affects the studies of the children and their sleep which will certainly have adverse impact on their performance in the school the next day. Poor preparation and sleeplessness are equally troublesome for students. Hence, something should be done to avoid power cut between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. If the officials are not able to meet the power demand, they are most welcome to do it during the day, said K. Balasubramanian, a bank employee. Contd

Is this in Tamilnadu ?
Premadasa made this point during the debate on the second reading of the budget on Saturday when he charged that the country is faced with poverty, foreign reserves crisis and brain drain.
He charged that the foreign exchange reserves are in a precarious situation as it has dropped from US 3.4billion in August to $ 3.1 billion in September and to $ 2.6 billion in October. One of the main reasons for this is the capital flight syndrome as markets and investors deem Sri Lanka as a high risk country to invest.
In addition, he explained that selling US dollars to buy Sri Lanka rupees in order to maintain the value of the rupee has a direct impact on inflation and the cost of living
He said the national income of this country is divided in scrupulous manner as the richest 20% of the society receive 53.8% of income, the poorest 20% receive a mere 4.8% of income. This anomally is an unacceptable and profound abnormality and an incongruity that impacts on society in a deleterious manner has to be corrected sooner rather than later, he said. .

As incidents of burglary had increased everywhere, residents could not keep the doors open during night for ventilation.
When Speaker R. Avudaiyappan was disbursing welfare measures to the beneficiaries at a function held at Vickramasingapuram on Tuesday night, power went off suddenly and a kerosene lamp came to the rescue of the Speaker.
Since the corporation is yet to take-up effective measures to control the mosquito menace, the parentshave been forced to use mosquito coils during power cuts. Doctors here feel that the fume emanating from the coils may cause allergy, respiratory problems and continuous cough.
Instead of using the coil, dried leaves of neem, five-leaved tree (nochchi) and sweet flag (vasambu) may be put in the embers to keep the mosquito away, prescribes Dr. Joseph Thas, a Siddha practitioner.
Industry loss Rs. 50 lakh
The 600-odd small and tiny industries in the district suffer a loss of over Rs. 50 lakh every day.
This is due to poor planning on the part of the TNEB. When you give permission to new industries, you should have also considered the power situation. Plastic industries are the worst hit, said president Tirunelveli District Small and Tiny Industries Association D.S.M. Jayarajan.
Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials here are facing the wrath of the consumers whenever power goes off. It is not our fault. As the TNEB s power generating capacity cannot meet the demand, the situation is worsening everyday. Whenever we get directions from Chennai, we just stop power supply . But the consumers are furious with us. We appeal to the consumers to understand this grave situation which is likely to improve in the next few days, said a top official of the TNEB here.
Imagine the hardships over there??? dont want even think of it... |

Read this Pls Nazi !
Nearly 38 new railway carriages out of 100 which were imported from China at a cost of 550 million rupees, are still lying idle at railway garage due to severe defects in technology and brakes, claimed All Ceylon Railway Employees General Union (ACREGU) Secretary Sumathipala Manawadu.
Manawadu told The Nation that the Sri Lankan Government had blindly imported these railway carriages from China, when the requirement was to import new power sets.
What s the purpose in purchasing railway carriages when they are not compatible with the technology of the train engines available in Sri Lanka? It would have been better if the Ministry of Transport had ordered power sets which are essential to upgrade the speed of the trains, so that the commuters do not have to spend much time in travelling, he opined.
Singalavanukku train vangavum theriyadhu, sariya ottavum theriyadhu and nalla maintain pannavum theriyadhu. Adukkudhan, SL requested INDIA to send 1000 trained railway employees to maintain their trains. Romba kastamda samy. |
