I was hoping that SLA would hoist a much larger Sri Lankan national flag. While they are at it, don't forget to broadcast it on Rupavahini so everyone, even those across the straits can watch it. There is a good reason why many Tamils from Sri Lanka refer to this flag as the Lion Flag. I wander what that reason could be?

Many Sinhalase don't realize, even after more than more than 45,000 men, women, boys and girls have died in combat over 20 years, that this flag continues fan the flames of resentment among many Tamils. At least an equal number of combatants have been maimed for life. What is the difference between what is happening now and the battles fought between the SInhala and Tamil kings a thousand years ago? The Sri Lanka State armed forces, under the direction of a President who still bows to the Chief Prelates just as the ancient Sinhala kings did, refer to the Tamil foot solders as 'terrorists.' Bless the Western advisors whose ancestors colonized this island. Similarly, the LTTE's propaganda organs refer to the Sinhala foot soldiers as foreign aggressors or just 'thugs.' We can fight this war another 20 years. Real estate would keep changing its ownership. But, in the end, Sri Lanka would end up as a State dependent on other States for survival, with no control over the lives of its people or its resources. Few questions to ponder.

Thalaivar,

Here is something you as a diaspora member (assuming you are indeed diaspora, if not my apologies and I withdraw the entire comment) that you might want to ponder.

1. LTTE military might is nothing but a hyped up image.
2. LTTE has failed to look after Tamil people or protect the land or even towns they occupy
3. LTTE is using Tamil civilians to cover their backside
4. LTTE let down people who sponsor them i.e. diaspora
5. LTTE is now fighting for their survival and it has little to do with winning equal rights
6. All former LTTE victrories are entirely down to Karuna who is another terrorist

However hurtful it may be this is the reality.

However, there is no military soluition to the problem and powers that be should develop an acceptable political solution if they want to have permanent peace in the country.

thanks

Err... that's' because it has a Lion on it...

So if they put a Nandi on the flag next to to the Lion, would it make you happier?

Hello Chennai,

Very good to see you. I am not sure if the LTTE is actually waiting for the SLA to go out of steam Chennai. I think the plan appears to be throw all the resources at protecting Kilinochchi. Frankly, i have no idea why they are doing it because that strategy leads to having all the cadres in one place. They would have been better off following tyheir own old tactic of hit and run. the only reason I can think of is VP is not very mobile or does not trust too many people around him

Of course no one knows what the thinking is. But holding on to one city with all the resources is not exactly a very good strategy from a common sense point of view!
