Poonaryn remains a hallmark of the undying courage of Sri Lanka Army soldiers as they withstood frenetic attack by the terrorists at the isolated camp in 1993. Army handed over their positions in the area to IPKF in 1987 and regained them in 1992 in Operations Valampuri 1 and 2. On 11 November 1993 , LTTE made an attempt to capture the Poonaryn camp but failed before the courage of Army soldiers. The incident was excessively misinterpreted as a great debacle by media with exaggerated army death and casualty figures. In mid 1996 , the camp was vacated by the Army as a tactical measure . |

Poonahari is not a suitable place for long time occupation. if my memory serves well sldf withdrwan from poonahari earlier.
Those days political leaders did not know what they were doing?
Now the situation is different. This is age of globalization.
GOSL is heading for petroleum exploration in mannar basin, and one plot is already allocated to India. so India can now go ahead.

Chennai Mootan
In relation to casualty figures one source say
LTTE has now completely withdrawn from Pooneryn after suffering heavy losses (according to close friends at battle front) losses extended to over 300 + casualties with over 100 dead elite LTTE troops.
According to my source SLA lost 7 and 41 walking wounded as Eelamists threw all their artillery at SLA and 63 Eelamists perished with 9 injured captured and the figures are rising as the clearing operations continues. Also variety of arms have captured by SLA without any ammunition...Not bad for a 6 hour fire fight eh...:-) |

Upul/Adhil
I saw thalaivar advising you to sell the land .
dont do it. Subramassi & his super wealthy gang is going to buy up all the land in SL-no bargaining even!.
Keep till then. pl.
As for me -Gonix & I are waiting for Mullaithivu. We're buying a land for raising animals underground to feed a bacon factory. A joint venture. Bacon for exclusive export to Canada. |

Yesterday the SLA were 8km from Poonakay and today milraculously they are in Poonakary.
How many Tigers killed? No word about that.
Something fishy here. |

I might consider splitting it and sell sometime later and leave a portion of it to the sitting tenant (Sathiyanandan Tamil family with 5 kids) who looked after the estate.I believe they may be still alive if Eelamists have not killed them...:-) |

Baks/Upul,
Don't you think all those underground bunkers are good for bio mass? Since they are very deep, we can import some raw material from TN and produce power???? |
