Mihin Air revival will result in CoL skyrocketing

Despite the rising cost of living, the government has allocated Rs. 6000 million to revive debt ridden Mihin Air and also construct the Weerawila Airport, UNP MP Ranga Bandara said yesterday.

He told The Island that the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime has lost its sense of priorities and was on an ego boosting exercise, which includes the relaunch of Mihin Air, even though it ran up a Rs. 3 billion loss in just one year.

`Why do we need to revive Mihin Air at enormous cost to the taxpayer, when there is Sri Lankan Airlines? The monies being pumped into Mihin Air could be used to develop local industries and also provide long overdue relief to the masses, the majority of whom are finding it difficult to obtain even three square meals.`

Bandara said that the excuse being trotted out was that budget airlines would be able to provide cheap transport. `But if that is the real intention, why was the former chairman of Mihin Air paid a Rs. 300,000 monthly salary? Directors of budget airlines should be receiving budgeted salaries.`

The government is totally out of step with economic developments in the world. That is why it wants to relaunch Mihin Air, at a time when more than thirty other budget airlines worldwide are in the process of winding up operations, he observed.

The biggest achievement of the Mahinda Chintana has been to hoodwink the people, Bandara said.`The budgetary proposal to develop local industries is another gimmick. Any reasonable person will want to know from where the required monies would come, now that the lions share has been allocated for an unimportant project such as Mihin Air.`

Why are poor Sri Lankans punished this way by utterly corrupt politicians?
When can people hold them responsible for their greedy, idiotic actions which defies logic?

Having wasted 3 billion rupees for the same, now they have allocated another 6 billion?

Having completely letting 3 billion going down the drain, was any one , any one dismissed.... OH...NO...NO...

When billions are needed to fight terrorism, when many established air lines closing down, when 900 aircrafts are just being parked in Arizona, USA for lack of business, our brainy bunch is pouring poor mans money just to let their foolish dreams come true!

Today, Kandy hospital is unable to feed patients as they are already short of Rs 50 million!

Hospital do not have basic facilities, roofs of schools falling down, poor people are trying to find money for the next meal, poor roads and infastructure..... etc etc.... They really can transform lives of poor people with some of these with this money.

Salaries of ministers multiplied, billions wasted on a cabinet who keeps on swollowing more money !

But who cares.... Let the grandiose delusions of govt. swollow the economy !! And many foolish people will voted for them again !

Hooray Mihin air !

Health ministry allocated only 5000 million. Health of 20 million people is much less worth than the dream air !

72 million slashed from Education for the dream air !

Health ministry employees not paid overtime. Money goes to dream air...

Money allocated not enough to pay food and medicine.... thanks dream air...

And the winner is DREAM AIR by billion miles !

Because too much money makes people selfish, possessive and fearful. The cling and cling until they drown in their own fears. MR hastily followed CBK's example in collecting wealth - but without the backing of family heritage. Hence the disaster which permeates the whole of Public Service - for what can they do without a better example to follow?

Just had a chat with ex-pat Sri Lankan back from Sri Lanka after a short visit for a celebration according to him things are fine in Sri Lanka war is almost over rich people are doing fine poor apparently they don't need much because they never had much to bigging with so they can tighten the belts adapt better than every one else. Middle class is suffering now its there turn. MR is doing a grate job keeping the Norwegians , British, and American away from plundering our untaped mega oil and fishing resources. So we need a new air line and a new airport to cater for the million's of tourist that going to visit very soon. But he did say it is getting difficult get loans from banks now. After the war all ex servicemen will be working in paddy fields and vegetable plots and orchards so country will be self sufficient in food and will be in a position to export rice and other food products.

It does sound a bit unfair to the general public about this 6000million allocation . To mihin air.. they should have put this to a temporary halt knowing the economic back drops across the world . And peoples less frequent traveling I doubt that this time around Mihin Air will be a success
