The time now was 11.23 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chinese built 3-D radar at Mirigama and the Indian 2-D radar at Katunayake Air Force base had the approaching aircraft on their screens. Radars are used to detect aircraft, vehicles, ships or other objects through the transmission of electromagnetic waves, which are reflected back by the object.
