Ranil Wickremasinghe ordered to explain

The Colombo District Court orders Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe to give explanation to the contempt of Court charge.
Colombo District Judge Sisira Ratnayake gave the ruling, turning down an initial objection raised by his Lawyers to acquit Mr. Wickramasinghe from this charge. The Colombo District Court issued the interim ruling with regard to a case filed by former UNP Parliamentarian Anura Bastian and Western Provincial Councillor Anil Kumara Wijesinghe on an MOU inked between the UNP and the SLSFP Mahajana Wing. The petitioners pointed out that Ranil Wickramasinghe had produced a false affidavit related to the agreement. Accordingly, Ranil Wickramasinge was today ordered to give explanation with regard to the charge of contempt of Court. The case will be taken up again on the 17th of December.
