TN traders chief held for forcing shutdown

The chief of Tamil Nadu traders federation, Vellaiyyan was arrested today for allegedly forcing establishments across the state to shut for a day to seek India s intervention in Sri Lanka s conflict, Indian police sources claimed.

Vellaiyyan was taken into custody because the federation forced closure of shops and eateries with the help of political parties sympathetic to the LTTE, a police official said.

A reformed Karunanidhi...

DMK Chief Karunanidhi said that the Tamil Nadu Government would extend its full support to the Central Government s efforts for a peaceful settlement in the Sri Lankan ethnic Tamil issue.

Addressing a gathering after dedicating the Rajiv Gandhi Salai to the nation and inaugurating the Oragadam Industrial Park Road Development Works on Wednesday, he said that the DMK always stood for peaceful settlement through dialogue between those involved in the conflict.

We never believed in gun for gun, blood for blood policy to find a solution to the issue.

The Indian Government should make efforts to initiate the dialogue process between the warring parties and the Tamil Nadu Government would extend its support, he said.

The party supremo said DMK always stood for the protection of the ethnic Tamils. We want the ongoing war to end and peace to prevail there, he said.

The Chief Minister, who quoted the Indian Express edition of April 6, 1989, which carried former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi s speech, which had firmly acknowledged the DMK s stand on the Sri Lankan issue.

Will Vaiko me reformed too?

UpulJ,
I thought you were the master cyber researcher in LNP with vast knowledge and expertise in many topics including military strategy...:-)

I would rather call it comon sense, and a life long habit of reading trying to pick bits and pieces of Info on this and that........

LOL....anybody can be a cyber researcher if they have have an internet connection and know what to look for......as for military strategy and what not, there is a very good collection at Brit Library tho you have to order them if you want to have a look, there are few rare ones, you can send few copies to your brother too......:):):):):):):)

Clever idea to stay put in your shell...:-)

You should have done the same thing without trying tell me about munitions SLAF was using.....remember you caught lying pants down with your version of 'Infrared Guided Fuel Air Bombs'......any fool who knows about what Fuel Air Bombs do never would make such a comment.....so, at least subscribe to Jane's Defense Weekly!!

Then again it boils down to common sense eh???

:):):):):):):):):)
