The generation of 275 Megawatts of power has come to a standstill following the damage to two turbines at Kelanitissa Power Station due to an LTTE air raid, Ceylon Electricity Board sources say.

The damage has threatened the supply of power during the peak usage period of 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm, and is already created a daily loss of Rs. 24 million, the sources add.

It is expected to take at least three months to repair the damaged steam turbine and GT Power Unit with a combined capacity of 100 MW.

The generation of 160 MW by private EAS diesel power station at Kelanitissa was stopped a few days ago due to overdue bills.

CEB engineers point out that as a result, the National Grid is losing 435 MW of supply.

Further, the CEB does not have a surplus of electricity to face a possible technical fault at other power plants, they further say.

President calls for local military research
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday urged those engaged in scientific research to focus their attention on military research.

The President said there is a lack of research in the spheres of military and defense strategies by local science researchers.

The President was of the view that new policies should be formulated to accommodate military research in the school curricula as well, so that research could be undertaken on our own home-grown remedies.

Referring to the crucial issue of combating terrorism and national security, he pointed out the value of a quality training to the Armed Forces of the land, even at a formidable expenditure, especially when battling the world's most ruthless and advanced terrorist outfit, the LTTE.

Fake 'Muslim' Barack Obama is on the verge of becoming the most powerful man on earth. Bush's party tried to brand him as a 'fake' Muslim, but, American public who are tired of 'war on terror' have decided to elect Obama as their president.

His grand father was a Muslim and his own father was a Kenyan born black, nevertheless, Americans have grown up to be broad minded to elect a black man their president on merits alone.

Sri Lankan constitution does not allow any person whose grand father was born abroad voting right, such, is the extremism that have been nurtured by the Sinhala Buddhist elitists over the last 60 years.
