Man has reached a point of insensitivity to the plight of others. People are mere numbers and it is in invading into the other man that man finds outlet to his desires. Even the invader has no sense of self-esteem for if he esteems his life then all lives are esteemed and revered. It appears that this man has become an entitlement kind and there is no difference in the way he gets his needs and fulfills his desires. Though world has seen several messiahs the ordinary man is still an animal in nature. Greedy, fearful and aggressive. The Sri Lankan situation crystallizes it best.
If man cannot live in peace with others he can at least live in peace with himself but even such an idea is not acceptable to people. It is not about right and wrong it is about that arrogance within man that he is superior and the other is inferior. Ultimately we all die and within that period we must maximize our time peacefully but such a thought will never enter the mindset.
I think the world is going to go through a period of violent struggle and finally we will arrive at a point that we cannot live by our self and will realize that the forces of nature are too unbearable and hence we will coalesce into society.
With so many saints and philosophers walked this earth and their teachings enshrined in writings man is still a barbaric animal incapable of feelings and sensitivity to another man s pain, suffering and struggle. To send people to destroy people and watch from the sidelines cheering is no human character, yet it goes on unabated. Invader and the invaded are both dying and the mother who allows her son or daughter to kill another man kind is not a mother but a medusa.
I feel the pain in my heart, since 1956, when this strife started, three generations gone by and the intensity increases day by day. These boys and girls who argue and justify in this forum are my grand children. These children are just the children of the children of the generation who started this strife. There is nothing peace-loving people can do about it except be prudent and pleading for restrain. |
