The Story of Deepavali..

Wednesday, 29 October 2008 - 9:24 AM SL Time

Once upon a time, there was a real bad guy in the other world. He once became too mischievous, rolled the earth (Bhooma Devi) like a mat and hid it under the sea. :P

Having lost the earth to play with his creations, Lord Brahma requested Lord Vishnu to help out. Lord Vishnu agreed, turned himself into a pig, took the bad guy to task and rescued the earth from the sea bottom.

The earth in turn got so impressed with pig-power, mated with it and had a baby. This baby grew up to become another real bad guy (Naragaasura). He was later killed by Lord Krishna and we all celebrate this event as Deepavali (Diwali)..! :):):)

There are so many such stories in Hinduism where the God annihilated Asuras. Needless to say, Asuras (non-drinkers) were Dravidas and the winning party was Aryas. Over time, Dravidas went so mindless and started celebrating their own defeat. What a disaster..! :O))

Now tell me.. who did celebrate Deepavali this week??!! :P

SantaKaBatcha,

Mate, is this your interpretation or is it a fact(or atleast is it generally agreed as such)? Just asking 'cos I do not know..

Santankabaccha

thats why i call myself a saivite . i use the term 'hindu' only because most people dont know the diff

eezham hindus are all saivite/murugan devotees and not vaishnavites :).99.99% of the eezham hindu temples belong to saivism

sivan and murugan date from Indus civ times and are naturally our original gods.

a list of some of the many pre-vedic Dravidian gods co-opted into the Dravidian-Aryan religious mix later known as Hinduism

Dravidian gods--------------Indo-european(aryan)
sivan--------------------later identified with Rudhra
murugan/kanthan/sevVel----------incoporated as 'skanda' etc
Maal / ThiruMaal----------later identified with Vishnu
goddess kottravai---------later known in the north as kali

etc etc

eezham saivism is pure saivism, and we dont take any BS from the priests either unlike in india where religion has become heavily sanskritized.
