A Tamil medium teacher was arrested in Bandarawela on Saturday with a bomb craftily concealed inside a book, Bandarawela police said.
The suspect was a resident of Sandilippay, Jaffna and had been employed as a Tamil medium teacher at a leading private school in the area since 1987.
Police said the explosive device placed inside a book was found during a search conducted at the room occupied by the suspect in the school. The search had been done after obtaining a warrant from the court on a tip-off received by the police.
Police said the explosives had been first placed inside a shoe polish tin. The tin had been again covered with polish and the aluminum foil too had been carefully placed to look like a brand new tin of polish.
Thereafter this tin had been placed inside a English book of which a hollow had been dug within the middle pages.
A detonator too had been found and two more holes had been dug in the book to place batteries and a watch.
Investigations by the bomb disposal unit of the Diyatalawa Army Camp had revealed this bomb had contained 65 grammes of high powered C4 explosives.
Police said the 11-inch long, 7-inch wide book was one-and-a-half-inch thick. Police said the explosives had been carefully concealed inside the book so that it does not look suspicious from outside.
Police said the suspect was being questioned further and he had revealed some important information.
Further investigations were conducted by the Bandarawela Terrorism Investigation Unit on the directions of Uva DIG H.N.B. Ambanwela, Bandarawela SSP Jayantha Fernando and ASP Roshan Wijesinghe.

Her career gone down the drain. What a waste of talent.
Given free education by Sri Lanka only to be brain-washed to
kill innocent people. |

Possibly from St. Thomas' College, credit to the Bandarawela Police for the discovery. |

These guys are getting sophisticated.
Just a pity that their creativity is not used for something positive. |
