Investors are pricing in a reasonably significant and protracted recession,'' said Troy Angus, who helps manage $3.1 billion at Paradise Investment Management in Sydney. ''The market's anticipating corporate earnings in Australia to go down 20 percent at least.''

Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average plunged 4.5 percent to 8,742.48, set for the lowest since June 2003. Australian shares headed for their worst week since the 1987 stock market crash. South Korea's Kospi index fell to its lowest since June 23, 2006, while a plunge in futures triggered a halt in program trading.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index lost 1.5 percent to 90.92 as of 9:28 a.m. in Tokyo. The measure is headed for a 12 percent weekly decline, the worst since the index was created on Dec. 31, 1987.

The regional benchmark dropped 42 percent this year

Sri Lanka is the worst offender of ethnic cleansing, not even Serbia is anywhere near it.

In 1946 the Sinhalese : Tamil speaking populations in the East was

6% : 94%

In 1981 the ratio was altered to

32% : 68%

How was it achieved?

PM DS Senanayaka wanted to spend govt money to sponsor Sinhalese peasants into settlements in the North and East in order to increase the parliamentary representation of the majority community.

In 1949 DSS also did another injustice to the blood letting and sweat shedding upcountry Tamils by disenfranchising them to increase the Sinhalese MPs by 7 overnight.

These are carefully manipulated ethnic cleansing of Tamil speaking communities.

TinTin,

Popularity is why we even have aforum like this in the first place. JRJ wanted to be popular among sinhelese and SWRD wanted to be , RP wanted to be, MR wants to be.

On the other side of the divide, VP wants to be MK wants to be and Karuna and Pillayan( I really dont know what they want to be)

I will not allow my beliefs and values be defeated by racist elements on both sides.Tamil and Sinhalese alike...
When racism dies and as Eelamaya said narrow mindedness dies then we will be truly liberated and maybe even be enlightened as Mahawamsaya!!

Mahawansaya,

Australia's getting hammered in the markets right now, and we are heading towards a recession... :( Our parliament was saying that Australia should be able to withstand the american crisis, but the aussie shares and AUD are heading down by the day! And even when the Aussie rallies, wallstreet still doesn't fight back, and then the Aussie gets hammered again the next day!

About 2 months ago, AUD/USD was at about 98 cents, but by this morning, we finished at 68 cents (and that's after fighting back). It's a sad time...
