The most number of terrorists fell dead when troops were confronting them in WANNIYARKULAM, north of PANDIVEDDIKULAM area in the KILINOCHCHI district. During that confrontation, twenty-one terrorists lost their lives following clashes. One radio set, seventeen hand grenades and several other LTTE items were captured afterwards. Terrorists communications said several more were injured in the fire directed by the troops, in addition to the number died.
Fierce fighting in ANDANKULAM, WELIOYA enabled the troops to capture a line of Tiger bunkers on Wednesday (8) after killing at least sixteen terrorists. Tigers confirmed twenty-six of their fellow-terrorists received severe injuries in the encounters that continued till about 6.00 p.m. on Wednesday (8).
ANDANKULAM clashes claimed the precious lives of eight soldiers of the Army who were fearlessly resisting the enemy thrust. Forty-five more soldiers sustained injuries during those clashes were admitted to hospitals. Most of the soldiers received injuries due to LTTE mortar fire and during counter attacks in ANDANKULAM, GAJABAPURA and MONARAWEWA areas.
