I have been a Facebook (FB) user for last few months and it had renewed my contacts with former school friends, after 20 years in some cases. It was surprising to find that friends from primary have ended up at the same geographical location, and I didn`t know it until the FB. In the mean time, I had a very uncomfortable experience of reading a private conversation between a friend and his partner over the FB, which definitely has made it to the public eye unwittingly.
Many of my peer FB users have portrayed their family and travel experiences overseas. Snowy backgrounds are pretty popular among many as ultimate proof of visiting a foreign soil. Some have partially photographed their apartments, which look modern and posh through the lens, but perhaps not very roomy and comfortable in any sense. Even more frequently the new born babies fill albums. I`m glad that I get the opportunity to see proud fathers and
mothers across continents.
Above all these, I was thinking the other day how would FB look in 50 years to the future. One observation that I`ve made is, apart from a few politicians older generation is not participating in FB. Obviously, they have enough trouble with typing emails, paying bills, burning CDs with computers etc., chance of them having a go at FB is still remote. Computers and internet are not fun for them.
In contrast, ours and the generations to come are ardent users of FB and the Internet. There is no reason that we won`t remain like that for the rest of our lives. With time, however, the interests and priorities will change. Today we are becoming new fathers and withing next thirty years the lot who survive the incoming depression and the world war III will celebrate being new grandparents.
Will these events make to FB? Instead of sending hugs and flowers to friends, will we be sending defibrillators, oxygen masks and breath of life to dying peers? Will there be an FB application to celebrate the bypass operation and hip replacement? I`m wondering. Probably you can express your opinion on this.
