War brought misery to Easterners - TMVP Leader

TMVP Leader V. Muralitharan popularly known as Karuna Amman in his maiden speech in Parliament yesterday(Oct 7) said he warmly welcomes the responsibility entrusted upon him by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on behalf of the Tamil people.

'This will be the beginning of the new era of the local political arena as well as of the Tamil speaking people.'

He said Tamils never endorsed the war. 'We all have to travel in the same track as we all are Sri Lankans,' he said.

'This is the time to forget the past and get together for the development of the country,' he said. Muralitharan said he is committed to develop the East.

He urged the international community to cooperate with him to achieve these targets. 'We were in the darkness earlier.

The situation has changed now and Tamils have been able to come out from the darkness in the Eastern Province.' He said he will support to implement the Mahinda Chinthanaya.

'I started the TMVP to lead towards the democratic path. Since then, I have been acting according to my consciousness. Tamils were experiencing various grievances for a long time,' he said.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Government was able to establish unity, development and democracy in the East which was not there for the last 22 years in the Province due to terrorism.

The Government was able to eliminate terrorism in the East.

It was also able to stop blood shedding by setting up democracy in the entire Province, he added.

It'S very interesting and you can read it in the Asiatribune...

India itself a pathetic country!!

Undoubtedly India - fighting secessionist guerilla movements in her North-Eastern states of Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram for over five decades has no wish to see a revival of Tamil separatism in the South. But the question is whether Delhi is expecting Sri Lanka to pay the price for keeping Tamil Nadu happy. So it is a small wonder that neither Narayanan nor Manmohan Singh were willing to unveil the memorial erected in Sri Lanka for the soldiers of the Indian Peace Keeping Force who gave their lives in fighting the LTTE in 1987-89. Erecting a memorial for them in India is simply out of the question for Delhi.
It may be a unique first in world history where a country has refused to honour her soldiers who fought for her in a foreign land. Even the United States which was roundly condemned worldwide for her brutal, aggressive role in Vietnam from where she had to retreat eventually has never hesitated to honour the Americans who fought there. But to Delhi erasing the memory of the IPKF's role in Sri Lanka is better than being reminded that it was branded the 'innocent people killing force' by the very Tamils who expected the Indian troops to save them from the 'Sinhala' armed forces. It is also far better than losing (for both the ruling Congress Party and the BJP) Tamil Nadu votes in the coming elections.
