Security forces discovered a large haul of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and other banned equipment last evening (01) while carrying out clearance procedures on a convoy of Wanni bound lorries. This discovery was made a day after security forces found C-4 explosives in a Kilinochchi bound lorry in Vavunia.
The items were recovered at the Vehicle Park at Thandikulam in Vavuniya, sources said.
According to the defence sources, 22 Global Positioning System (GPS) items had been concealed in jaggery sacks and subsequently security dorces had seized the lorry.
The C-4 explosives weighing around 2.5kg recovered on Wednesday (01) were found concealed under the driver's seat, while a total cache of 28,880 batteries (a prohibited item) were found in a makeshift false compartment in two separate lorries.
These Lorries were sent from Colombo to un-cleared areas with food consignments to be provided to the civilians.
It is believed that these lorries which were regularly used for transporting food to North, had been supplying explosive and other war materials to the terrorists for a long time as the compartments, about two feet deep, looked well used.
