Go back to Jaffna and read all the stones left by GOSL leaders. then you will find there are more than 1000 buildings been built by GOSL. what about the Vavuniya, Killi hospitals ?
May be during the last 25 years nothing was done to killi cause GOSL funded projects been destroyed by LTTE |

I don't think Sri Lanka should adopt the Malaysian model. Tamils and Chinese (over 35% of population) have very little political influence. Everything is biased in favour of Malay Bhumiputra majority. Government jobs, education, scholarships, University places, Police, armed forces all favour Malays. Chinese and Tamil businesses are legally obliged to employ a certain minimum percentage of Malay workers. Chinese and Tamils dare not open their mouths in Malaysia. Majority of Chinese send their kids to Chinese medium primary school. From secondary school onwards everyone has to learn Malay. The only reason why minorities continue to live there is that Malaysia continues to prosper economically. Unlike Sri Lankan leftist governments of 60's and 70's, they never destroyed the private sector creating a huge unemployment and underemployment problem, which is why Sri Lanka became fertile ground for groups like JVP and LTTE. Just as Tamils thought they were discriminated against, huge numbers of rural Sinhalese thought they were losing out to Tamils and Colombo elite, and politicians on both sides exploited these feelings for their own gain. The underlying problem always was the stagnant economy. If there were plenty of jobs and a climate for business to prosper as in Malaysia, people would not have started fighting. Sri Lanka has the potential of becoming as prosperous as Malaysia, but it needs peace. Minorities are treated much better in Sri Lanka than in Malaysia. We need to build on that.
