VP-The vast tracts of fertile lands of Vanni, which were invaded and occupied by the Sinhala armed forces afters years and months of massive military campaigns, after sacrificing thousands of lives, have been liberated by our fighters at a rapid pace within a short span of time. A colossal military structure with its multiple military complexes, well fortified bases and camps suddenly collapsed with the onslaught of the Tiger offensive. We have liberated almost all the ancient strategic towns in the Vanni region. I am happy that we have redeemed a sector of Manal Aru, which is the heartland of Vanni where the state's army massacred the indigenous Tamils and created Sinhala settlements.
Our massive offensive campaign in Vanni code-named 'Unceasing Waves 3' has effectively demonstrated to the world the extra-ordinary growth and development of the Tiger fighting forces in the art of modern warfare. The speed of our strikes, the ability of rapid deployment, the unified command, the high discipline, the spectacular offensive tactics and the tremendous courage displayed by our fighting formations have astounded the world military experts.

LTTE OVERRUNS SEVERAL STRATEGIC TOWNS IN NEW OFFENSIVE THRUST IN MANNAR
Sri Lankan armed forces suffered further humiliating debacles as the commando units of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) overran several strategic towns in pre-down lightning attacks in the Mannar District today.
In a meticulously planned offensive thrust, the LTTE fighting formations launched simultaneous attacks on Pallamadu, Periamadu, Palampitty and Thatchanamarutha Madu and overran the military bases in these areas. Situated along the strategic land route between Vavuniya town and Vidathaltivu in the west coast of Mannar, these towns were captured by the Sri Lankan army during a series of military campaigns code-named 'Operation Ranagosa'. The town of Madu, where the famous Roman Catholic shrine is situated, also fell to Tamil Tigers without resistance.
Vast tracts of territory in the heart of Mannar fell to Tigers during the 12 hours of battle as the Sri Lankan troops deserted their posts and fled unable to withstand the fury of mortar and artillery fire.
From the fallen military bases and camps the LTTE fighters have recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition including armoured cars, armoured personnel carriers and trucks.
Sri Lankan armed forces suffered hundreds of casualties, whereas 10 LTTE fighters were killed in the fighting today.

Karunanidi says Jaya is fake hak hak
Severely jolted by the overwhelming support for the CPI fast tomorrow, urging the Centre to stop its military assistance for the Sri Lankan government engaged in a genocidal war against Tamils, Tamil Nadu chief minister Mr M Karunanidhi, today broke his silence and claimed that his party was the one supporting the island Tamils from the beginning. Obviously embarassed by the AIADMK s decision to support and participate in the fast throughout the state |

LTTE FORCES OVERRUN PALAMPITTY AND PERIAMADU
MASSIVE OFFENSIVE RESUMES IN MANNAR DISTRICT
In a fierce offensive thrust the LTTE fighting units overran the Sri Lankan military complex at Palampitty today morning and later took control of Peria Madu in the western sector of Mannar district and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy.
After a brief respite to consolidate its military gains in Vanni area the LTTE resumed its offensive campaign code-named 'Unceasing Waves 3' in the early hours of the morning today. Supported by artillery and mortar fire, the LTTE fighting units stormed the forward defence lines of the Sri Lankan military base at Palampitty and overran the entire military complex after several hours of intense fighting. Palampitty - a strategically crucial town in the central region of Mannar district about 30 miles west of Vavuniya town - and its surrounding areas are now under the control of the LTTE. The Tamil Tiger fighters also launched a lightning attack on the military defence positions at Peria Madu and captured the army base in that area. The area where the Catholic Holy shrine located is also surrounded by the LTTE fighters.
Following the fall of the military complex, the LTTE fighters recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition including armoured cars, armoured personnel carriers.
In the meantime, Sri Lankan military base at Irani Illupankulam, about 15 miles west of Vavuniya town, have also come under heavy attack. Commando units of the LTTE have been pounding the army's defence positions in this area with artillery and mortar fire.

LTTE FORCES ADVANCE FURTHER INTO VANNI:
DEFENCE POSTS IN WELI OYA COLLAPSE
Heavy fighting continued in the border areas of Vanni as the advancing columns of LTTE forces made further thrusts today into the northeastern sector of Manal Aru (Weli Oya) and regained vast tracts of Tamil territory from the occupying Sri Lankan army.
Sri Lankan troops fled in disarray as the LTTE commando units stormed well-fortified military camps in the Manal Aru area and brought the territory under their control. 'Thanikallu' and 'Ceylon Theatre' military camps -which functioned as a protective armor for the Sinhala colonisation of Tamil villages in the region - fell to the LTTE after several hours of heavy artillery and mortar engagement between Tamil Tigers and Sinhala troops.
In the central sector, along the A9 highway, the LTTE fighting units made further advance from Pulliyankulam and captured Pannikaneeravi, a strategic junction between Pulliyankulam and Omanthai. Both the parties in conflict, the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lankan army, have been engaged in a ferocious artillery duel in the area for the last 24 hours.
Heavy fighting has also flared in the Pallamadu and Palampity areas along the western sector of Mannar where LTTE fighting units are making a sustained effort to liberate the area from the occupying army.
Over one thousand Sri Lankan troops have been killed and double that number injured in the continuing campaign by the LTTE code-named 'Unceasing Waves 3'. 119 LTTE cadres, including 43 women fighters, have died so far in the ongoing offensive operations.
In the meantime the Sri Lankan military establishment is dismantling several army camps in the Trincomalee and Batticoloa districts in a desperate effort to reinforce troops, in the bordering regions of Vanni, to halt the rapid advance of the LTTE.
