Devolution of power to the 1% extremist will not bring peace and freedom for Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims

Nobody devolves power to a particular group, who heads the devolved administrative unit is decided in a free and fair elections.

Other civilised and successful countries have shown that only a Federal or Con-federal system can unite people of different ethnicities. Marshall Tito showed that a good leader good unite different ethnicities within a country but his successor, Milosovic, a so called Marxist racist prompted the disintegration of former Yugoslavia into many dofferent independent states.
Devolution of power to the brightest non-extremist Sinhalese, Tamils & Muslim will bring long lasting peace & freedom for all Sri Lankans

How can you do it? By conducting aptitude tests or IQ tests? Election is the best method of choosing the leaders, but it should not be a license to elect leaders from a particular ethnic group in a divided country.

The federal system unite people and promote prosperity and strengthens the institutions. Examples: Canada, US, Australia, S'land and almost all European countries.

The state terrorism started in 1956 with the illegal and racist Sinhala Only Act. Since 1956 the state let loose the terrorism that killed and chased Tamils from their homes and destroyed their livelihood.

LTTE was founded much later in 1983 to check the state terrorism. Even if LTTE is destroyed which has been proved impossible during the last 25 years the state terrorism that raised its ugly head in 1956, 1958, 1965, 1977, 1983 will still be destructive.

We must understand in a democratic country, there is a always a possibility of an extremist leader will come to power as in 1956. But there is always a non violent methods that can reverse the process.

By 1977 most mistakes done in 50's were corrected.

The problem start when people use violence to achieve political ambitions.

Basically politicians needs votes of Tamils, Sinhalese Muslims.

The best part of JR constitution is the importance of minority votes in the presidential election. It gives power to the minority to dismiss a president who go against their rights.

It is difficult to become the president of Sri Lanka without the help of Tamils & Muslims.

But you know, MR became president with the help of LTTE which is another storey.

Jaffna library was burnt down in 1979 by the SL police and army.

1972 Constitution removed the only safeguard against legislations discriminatory to the ethnic, religious or linguistic minorities.

MR was elected purely on the votes by the ethnic majority. He openly said so. Leaders are elected in Sri Lanka always by ethnic majority which is permanent. In India, a member of Sigh community could be elected as PM though they constitute only 2%. This is impossible in the racist Sri Lanka.

I am against the concept of controlling 1. a wife by her physically stronger husband or 2. minorities by numerically stronger majority. It's barbarism even to think that controlling people. In Europe independent countries come closer to form economic and political union, this is civilisation in the 21st century.

In Singapore all the communities work together to prosper when all languages are given parity of status, no language is forced down the throats of minorities as in Sri Lanka or Malaysia.

Yes, devolution of power is essential. But we must be clear that it should be done to develop Sri Lanka - not to promote Nationalism is any ethnic group.

I think we have to look at a system similar to Singapore.

Singapore is basically managed by professional managers.

If Sri Lanka gets an intelligent leader, who can phase out current set of leader and bring the brightest Sri Lankan to politics we have a good future.

In other words, we should say thank you Mr Sampathan, Mr Sangaree, Mr Rathnasiri W, Mr Dougless D etc for your service but we need people who have experience & professional knowledge to develop Sri Lanka

Three family members killed in Jaffna.

GOSL and LTTE say killers are not them.
Then this must be a suicide.

Tamil Suicide in North East = Openly go against SAL or LTTE

This is entirely wrong. If LTTE didn't boycott the elections MR wouldn't get a chance.

Premadasa & CBK were selected with the support of minorities.
