Although I respect your opinion: I agree to disagree.
Premadasa was not minority friendly and did not look at or had any interest in addressing the grievances of the Tamil people. Like the govt of today he too was frighten of JVP and wanted IPKF out and his best option was to use LTTE. He pandered to LTTE and JVP ignoring the moderates from either side.

Tamil Greivances are CRAP.
Look at all the provincial councils at present. They all are dpependant on the same source of money for existence. Because, Sri Lanka is poor and can not afford so much political bureaucracy.
Therefore, the best thing is cancel provincial councils. Cut down the parliament size and make the govt effect, productive and accountable. |

WHO cares P-UNP? and P-TNA?
No one is going to listen to them.. Thats why even Akashi didnt bother about them.. they think that JVP is more powerful in the country than those P twos.

There are grievances of the Sinhalese Tamil Muslims due to under development.
Premadasa came from the slums in Colombo, where Sinhalese, Tamils & Muslims live in perfect harmony.
For them (like all poor Sri Lankans) the next meal is the challenge. Nationalism is only a bonus.
For the politically ambitious uneducated extremists (LTTE & JVP) the ability to rule others is the challenge. Nationalism is the vehicle.
LTTE & JVP will do anything to achieve their selfish motive.

Tamil grievances is Crap
It might be crap for you and I do understand because grievances is subjective and depends on the person or group looking at it.
For Tamils who believe in being self sufficient and in control of their lives see it as a grievance if the state is impeding on this belief to an extent that is not achievable. On the other hand if you look at the state and Sinhalese they think they have a right to handouts of the IC. They have done very little to actually be sovereign than calling them severing.
They all depend on the same source of money
Why? This is because of the current structure.
This is why I advocate the federal form of government. Where the parameters of authority and funding are defined with the authority of Taxation.
This is why Canadians pay Federal & Provincial Taxes and the municipality taxes through property taxes. Transfer payments are based on Federal responsibility and regions ability to generate funds. Over all this we pay GST and SST which you would know as PST which too goes to two different jurisdictions.
This is a wide subject but I have given you in brief to explain the point.
Man I hope your paying your taxes in time otherwise CRA is going to come looking for you.
