Update from Bibile......
Wednesday, 23 January 2008 - 2:45 PM SL Time

First I want to say Thank You to Mr. Ekanayake and his gang for waiting for us patiently as we got late when we reached the school.
Pleasant looking kids and English teacher made us feel welcome to their school. As it was a Poya day only kids were in the shool were the kids from Computer Unit. I just want to remind all the LNP members these kids need many more things to carry on there Technovillage project. They have their own wish list in their website technovillage .org. If you want u can mail a parcel direct to their address and it get deliver to Bibile.

After seen the Computer Unit at the Pitakumbura Maha Vidyalaya we had proceed to the Blind Lady`s house. The house is already built up to roof level (will post pics later) amd need more money to finish the project. As I talked to Mr. Ekanayake he mentioned that when it is finished cost will be about 5 1/2 Lakhs (550,000 SLR)
and if I can recall we had colected some where 3 1/2 lakhs for the house project. I`m not sure if some members still donating funds to this cause or not. I personally thinks we should run a another fund drive but I`ll leave that open to our dear Mr. Brown and Lalith
Lokka :):)

Blind lady had mentioned that she doesn`t has a way to feed the kids and only receive 150 RS per month from the GOVT. We can built a house but if we don`t try to find a solution to feed this kids what will be the end results?? A woman who can`t work ,raising a four kids is not an easy thing any where in the world. When you read this please think about it.` Hunger is the biggest fire of all`
that`s what Buddha had said. May be we can come up with a soltion!!
We have all brainy Sri Lankan in LNP who can write their suggestions . We can give a place to live for a family but if they starve in a house I don`t see a point......

Blind lady`s kids had asked me school books and other things they need for their schooling. I am not sure how much funds they received so far. Of course on the begining of any procees we all get excited and donate things. As time wears out we tend to forget these people exists. I like to kindly request Mr.Brown and Lalith Ayya to carry on the project they had started for many more years. These children can benefits from our well to do Sri Lankan Expats.

Also I want make a one last suggestion on behalf of Mr. Ekanayake. If Mr. Brown make him a Senior member in LNP we could see the project and house routinely. I know many members travel to SL but when we are in vacation it is not an easy trip for us. If you in SL try to visit the place and there is nothing to fear to travel most parts of the country .

I do want post pics I had taken but due to connection problem in my comp. I gave up today morning. Hopefully near future I`ll upload all pics I had taken.

Kankun,

Thank you noble lady :))

Let us do it in two phases with all humility:

First let us help them with fish.

Second let us help them to catch fish.

Over to MrB and readers.

This is good news to hear. Isn't there a way to fund this lady to start her own business? Maybe get her to start a business of her own, something like weaving paduru? She can maybe hire some help from nearby people and get a sustainable business running. I don't know if this is possible though.

The reason I said paduru is because back at home my mom always tells me how she buys paduru, pillow cases and bed sheets that were made by blind people, they come door to door selling that stuff. There's some place in Colombo where the blind are taught how to work. If possible I'll tell my mother to find some info about this and get back to you or Mr Lalith.

Zaha,

Thanks for the kind words. :):)

Where is Mr. Brown anyway ?? :):)

JTL,

I love your idea. Hope you dig up more info and it's better to teach her something rather than giving money. Do you know Paduru is quite expensive these days . Even me bouught the plastic paduru because of it. Small shop may be ideal too.
