Inflation reached the all-time record in the banana Republic.

Sri Lanka Inflation Hits Record 26.2%
AFP Jan 22 12:20 GMT

Inflation soared to an all-time record of 26.2% in Sri Lanka in November, central bank officials said Tuesday. The Sri Lanka Consumer Price Index, the broadest measures of prices across the country, rose to 281.8 points in November, up from 223.3 a year earlier or a 26.2% year-on-year increase, they said. High defense spending to support government determination to defeat separatist Tamil Tiger rebels is also seen as fueling inflation. Sri Lanka raised the 2008 defense budget by 20% to a record $1.48 billion.

SL is trying the chehnya on the militry side. Pakistan on political side.

Chehnya became possible bcos of a split in the rebels & a young rebel made chieg minister for chehnya. Douglas & pillaiyan are waiting for that, they are ready to fight LTTE

On political, MR will bring army govt when he cant handle the sinhala masses any more with high COL & draging war.

Sintamus,

This LTTE menace would have been finished long ago if Indians weren't pulling our leg. Now we have the political willingness and the support of India to get rid of this

it was not india pulling your leg, it was that SLFP & JVP did not understand the strategy of JR the fox.

as usual they wanted political mileage by opposing IPKF, it is always foolish politics in SL saved LTTE.

JVP still continue to do that, they wont support MR fully to fight the war, taking contradicting positions all the time to satisfy vote bank.

What he said was Lakehouse phone booth and railway station small bomb were not perhaps done by LTTE. I too believe what he said. LTTE will not go for little fire crackers.

we have to wait..but i think it included Nugegoda blast too

For LTTE to launch attacks in the South, they must have a sizeable force still located in the East. when they withdrew they have gone into yala and other areas from where they can launch these surprise attacks.

MR will have to think seriously about bringing some of the forces from Northern theatre.
