Lakvision, the 1st ever Sinhala International Satellite Television channel to upload from Sri Lanka was officially launched yesterday under the theme `bridge the distance with people away from home`.
During the launch of the channel, Lakvision International Satellite Television Broadcaster Chairman Nawaz Rajabdeen said that the channel was specifically established with the intention of catering to the needs of the expatriate Sinhala Community living overseas.
Rajabdeen said that this channel will telecast a wide variety of programs in Sinhala which includes programs in the spheres of culture, business, language, entrainment, and politics and a host of other programs that caters to the needs of the expatriate community.
He also added that this channel intends to impart knowledge about the Sinhala language, art and culture to the children growing up overseas.
`Lakvision will also be concerned about specific problems facing the Sinhala community like remitting the earnings home and the lack of information about relatives friends and family. The channel will also provide a specific service in connecting the expatriate community to services like banks, lawyers
, own relatives`. He explained.
The channel will cover the Middle East and Europe while efforts are underway to expand its reach in North America shortly.
The Chairman further pointed out that Lakvision will provide an ideal media for advertisers like property developers, banks, insurance and such service providers.
The channel aims to keep its viewers constantly updated on the happenings in Sri Lanka and in turn build and increase viewer knowledge about the country.
Lakvision will commence its broadcasting on February 4, 2008.
