I can belive the Kandy katcheri story this is due to wide scale corruption in our departments.What this Tamil person can't understand is that the scarcity is deliberately created to get a bribe.There are agents out side that sell those applications,only the familiar driving instructors know how to get them.One could get a license to dive with the minimum of driving skill,if you oil the right palm.I have a faithful Tamil employee who is trying for nearly 2 years to get a replacement to her lost ID due to stupid unnecessary bureaucracy.It is not against the minorities.In Kandy a well known powerful Tamil shop keeper used the unheard powers of the Municipality to remove the gate of his land lord's Shopping complex,because the land lord tried to control the unauthorized cars parked in that premises,because the Presidential palace was across the road and he had a fight in his hand to get one suspected vehicle removed from there,when the president was visiting there.So all communities have a fair share of the corrupt system,nothing personal,just the bad system. |

When the tsunami hit, food convoys blocked by LTTE not us.
You have not answered any of my questions but choose to seek refuge within LTTE, a trick, usually adapted by the govt and its supporters.
Successive SL governments discriminated Tamils and Muslims for more than 60 years. Sinhala Only Act discriminates non-Sinhala speaking people and that was the root cause of the ethnic problem that destroys this country.
You can tell LTTE did that and this, but, people who are at the receiving end of the activities of the govt and LTTE know the truth. You cannot fool all the people all the time. |

a letter written by one Wickrama de Alwis on Mar 13, 2001 appeared on The Island:
'I went to Kandy Kachchery to obtain a Revenue Licence for my Motor Vehicle. I found most of the notices only in Sinhala.
Those who claim this is a lie are liars themselves. The author of the letter, a Sinhalese, a good Sinhalese for that matter, has pointed out that the govt which passed the Tamil Official Language bill in 1987 following the Indo-Lanka Accord has not implemented it even when claiming that it treats all ethnicities EQUAL.
The date of the publication of the letter and the newspaper in which it appeared are given for anybody to check its authenticity. When the extremists cannot find any bizzare explanation for something discriminatory is exposed they always say, its a 'lie', very convenient, isn't it? |
