Guys please dont get me wrong and I DO NOT support violence by either side.
Military victory in Vanni will not bring lasting peace.
Already you are seeing the havoc isolated groups of LTTE activists can wreak in the border areas( Yala, Monaragala, Wilpattu). The hill country is a powder keg waiting for the fuse. VP will be a fool if he has not established cells in the hill country. And Colombo and suburbs are very vulnerable to attacks as long as the attackers are prepared to die. In addition LTTE has unspecified number of planes.
If theres an all holds barred contest the LTTE can unleash mayhem hitherto unknown to SL. This will precipitate anti Tamil riots and the UN will be forced to intervene.
I think the only way to stop a blood bath is to implement a just political solution:)) |

Angry residents of Buttala blame police negligence
(LeN, 2008 Jan 16, 7.00 PM) The angry residents of Buttala area surrounded the police station and accused that today's claymore attack at a passenger bus was a result of police negligence.
A group that entered into the jungle to chase a wild elephant observed a suspicious team and complained to Buttala police station. The officials neglected the information sarcastically. However, a group of police officials went into the jungle but did not carry out a thorough search.
People of the area say that the disaster could be avoided if a thorough search was conducted by security forces.

Slain MP, T. Maheswaran was aware of who was shooting him. Maheswaran was holding out his hands and shouting ?Vasanthan don?t shoot me? when he was shot at the Ponnambalavaneswar Kovil, according to the leader of the opposition in parliament.
The parliament assembled yesterday morning at 9.30 A.M. Presided over by speaker W.J.M. Lokku Bandara. Minister Nimal Sripala De Silva commenced the speech of the condolence vote on the death of M.P. Maheswaran. Following this opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe in his speech mentioned that Maheswaran was shouting ?Don?t shoot me Vasanthan? at the time he received bullets.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice Dilan Perera told in his condolence speech that the court order for the removal of road check points too could have facilitated the murder |

I have great respect for you as a person. But I disagree with you.
Only a just political solution will bring lasting peace to the Tamils (and Sinhalese).
The LTTE will not have a reason to exist after this. That is why they feared Ranil more than MR. This militaristic idiot is hell bent on ruining the country:)) |
