Oh sure... we prospered at our own pace for centuries after Elaara's misadventures.
Also we prospered in the past 25+ years living with Velu's terror. So have no doubt about next millennium!

Dear all
Here is a related news item from Sri Lanka from Lankatruth
The JVP will not allow any country to use economic sanctions to suppress Sri Lanka said JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe. He said this when Japan's special peace envoy Yasushi Akashi met him at the JVP Head Office at Pelawatta yesterday.
Mr. Akashi arrived in Sri Lanka last morning and met the JVP Leader before meeting any other political leader.
At the discussion Mr. Akashi had warned that Japan and many other donor countries would stop aid to Sri Lanka as a result of the conditions that have come up after withdrawing from the ceasefire agreement. In response Mr. Amarasinghe had said that the JVP would never allow anyone to suppress the people in this country using economic sanctions. 'The masses in this country are prepared to sacrifice their lives for the sovereignty and dignity of the Motherland. The JVP is with those masses,' Mr. Asmarasinghe had said.
Speaking further Mr. Amarasinghe had said, 'If the government doesn't take the responsibility the JVP would be prepared to take that responsibility. We would like to send this message through you to the western international community as well.' Mr. Amarasinghe had added.
The JVP Leader had asked Mr. Akashi why Japan, which supports Afghanistan to fight terrorism, doesn't do so regarding Sri Lanka and had vehemently condemned the statement Japan's special envoy had made to an Australian radio channel on 1st May, 2006 that foreign troops should be sent to Sri Lanka. The JVP Leader had said that all in this country except tiger terrorists seek peace and had emphasized that tigers should be defeated to establish peace. He had said the JVP would never agree to any amendment to the constitution that would obstruct this stating that it is for this reason that the JVP demands that APRC should be dispersed.
Director of for South Asian Regional matters in Japan Masato Othaka and Japan's Ambassador in Sri Lanka Kiyoshi Araki were associated with Mr. Akashi in the discussion while JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Hanadunneththi participated with Mr. Amarasinghe.

Last week Japanese Ruling LDP introduced a new anti terror bill for refueling mission in Indian ocean.
A bill rejected early by opposition controlled upper house was re introduce to lower house, controlled by LDP and passes by majority.
Seems Nordics and EU making Japan to voice for CFA.
