Need for the role of Norway to continue as Sri Lanka`s negotiator and meet with LTTE - Tokyo Co-Chairs
Sunday, 13 January 2008 - 10:39 PM SL Time

In a joint statement, Tokyo Co-Chairs (Norway, Japan, US and EU) expressed the need to continue with Norway`s role as peace negotiator and also the concern about the termination of the 2002 Ceasefire Agreement by the Government of Sri Lanka.

These concerns have already been expressed in individual statements.

They requested the Government of Sri Lanka to provide them access to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Kilinochchi for representatives of the Co-Chairs and the facilitator to continue as negotiators.

The Co-Chairs emphasized their belief that there is no military solution to the conflict in Sri Lanka, and reiterate their support for a negotiated settlement.

They urged as follows: the Government of Sri Lanka to finalize a politically sustainable devolution plan, all parties to comply with their obligations under international law to protect civilians and allow access by humanitarian aid agencies to populations in need.

They expressed deep concern about the human rights situation and protection of civilians in Sri Lanka, and call for continued monitoring of the human rights situation by such means as to assure an appropriate role for the UN

There is no military solution to the conflict in Sri Lanka.

But there is no other solution that can satisfy Sinhala masses and Buddhist monks.

'I am not worried about the opinion of the Tamil people? now we cannot think of them, not about their lives or their opinion.. the more you put pressure in the north, the happier the Sinhala people will be here? Really if I starve the Tamils out, the Sinhala people will be happy.'- President J.R. Jayawardene, Daily Telegraph 11th July 1983

Pirabaharan is proved to be right again he brought Mahinda in, expecting MR JVP JHU making an extremist soup, thereby getting rejected by the IC.

They misread all the signals given by the IC right from day one:

They said there is no military solution - didnt listen.
They said put a delotion proposal - didnt listen

US India EU have told them the same thing very clearly.

The Co chairs also know more about winning the War punnakku news fed to the moda public remember Co chairs have their own intelligence!

Mahinda now will lose the support of Japan too if he does not listen, but he has cornered himself without any options by locking himself with the War Only strategy thats called Moda Chinthanaya!!

Jeyawewa to that!!

President says govt. will not reconsider CFA
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who met with the Indian High Commissioner in Colombo on Friday, has informed him that the status quo regarding the abrogation of the 2002 Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) would remain until the LTTE was defeated.
Political sources said the President held a one-to-one discussion with the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Alok Prasad on Friday.
According to sources, President Rajapaksa had informed the High Commissioner that the government would not reconsider the already cancelled CFA.
?The President, we are told, has emphasised that the CFA is no more.
