UNP Parliamentarian T. Maheswaran who was shot at Sri Ponnambala Vaneswara Hindu Temple in Kotahena, this morning succumbed to injuries at the intensive care unit of the Colombo General Hospital.

Along with UNP Parliamentarian T. Maheswaran his body guard too had died due to gun shot injuries. Twelve others had been injured.

The UNP condemned the killing of its MP T. Maheswaran and claimed that the government solely responsible for the incident. UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said that the government pruned MP Maheswaran`s security in order to kill him.

JHU strongman and Environment Minister Champika Ranawaka today strongly condemned the killing of UNP MP T. Maheswaran. He said Maheswaran was a moderate Tamil politician and whoever who wanted to kill him would have wanted to silence the moderate Tamil voice.

JVP says government can`t escape being the key respondent of Maheswaran`s killing since it refused to provide adequate security to the slain parliamentarian despite requests by him even a few days ago.
