[I dont' think we can find a solution for the ongoing conflict........imagine VP is killed and LTTE's over.....do you think that the conflict is over....]

That is what we have to work on.

I don't think political solutions will work.

What we have to work on is, Tamil Extremists using People's economic problems for their political advantages.

If you want tell me how LTTE is going to get cadres to fight, if their families have a future to look forward into.

If they are unemployed and no future to look into then they believe anything that any one says.

Even if/(&when) LTTE is eliminated from the equation-its very likely our big brother will mess it up again- SL guys on both side of the divide must work out a plan to pre-empt this.

For that all main stream parties mustcome to a consensus-on the two key issues- which as I see are-degree/mechanics of devolution & good governance.
Will this ever happen? I doubt this.

Key political victims of terror attacks in Sri Lanka

By IANS
Tuesday January 1, 07:12 PM

Colombo, Jan 1 (IANS) Terrorism has claimed the lives of several prominent politicians in Sri Lanka. These include a head of state and government, cabinet ministers, MPs and mayors. Most victims have been Tamils.

It all began July 27, 1975 when the Mayor of Jaffna, Alfred Duraiappah, was shot dead in front of a Hindu temple.

Among the young men who carried out the killing was Velupillai Prabhakaran, who founded the Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) the next year.

With the intensification of the Tamil armed struggle in the 1980s, political targets of much higher profiles began to be taken by Tamil militant groups, the LTTE in particular.

Tamil MPs killed include A. Amirthalingam, Neelan Tiruchelvan, Joseph Pararajasingham and Nadarajah Raviraj.

Amirthalingam of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) was shot dead in a Colombo home July 13, 1989 by a group of LTTE guerrillas with whom he was having tea. Also killed with him was TULF leader V. Yogeswaran.

Ranjan Wijeratne, the deputy minister of defence in the Ranasinghe Premadasa government, was killed in a devastating car bomb explosion March 2, 1991 as he drove to his Colombo office.

Having perfected the art of suicide bombing with the assassination of former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in Tamil Nadu May 21, 1991, the LTTE blew up Sri Lankan President Premadasa here at the 1993 May Day rally.

A suicide bomber killed presidential candidate Gamini Dissanayake in Colombo Oct 24, 1994.

The second Jaffna mayor to be killed was Sarojini Yogeswaran - widow of the slain Yogeswaran - of TULF. She was shot dead at her Jaffna house May 17, 1998.

Her successor, Pon Sivapalan, died when a powerful bomb concealed on the roof of his Jaffna office exploded Sep 11, 1998.

C.V. Gooneratne, a cabinet minister in the Chandrika Kumaratunga government, fell to a suicide bomber near Colombo June 5, 2000.

Wijeratne, Premadasa, Dissanayake and Gooneratne were from the majority Sinhalese community.

A suicide bomber killed Tiruchelvan, a confidant of Kumaratunga and an internationally admired academic and also from TULF, near his office in Colombo July 29, 1999.

Gunmen killed Joseph Pararajasingham of pro-LTTE Tamil National Alliance (TNA) during a Christmas-eve mass in 2005 in a church in the eastern town of Batticaloa.

N. Raviraj, an MP who was critical of the government, was shot dead here Nov 10, 2006.

New Year's day in 2008 saw the assassination of United National Party (UNP) MP T. Maheswaran. He was shot dead while worshiping at a Hindu temple.

Earlier, V. Yogasangari of the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) was shot dead in Chennai June 19, 1990.

Earlier, Sam Thambimuthu, also of EPRLF, was gunned down outside the Canadian high commission here May 7, 1990.

Anu
You think the GOSL is willing to address economic problems of the Tamils? Syatemically depriving economic and infrastructure development in NE contributed to the current situation.

Even now, what has happened to the East Rise, preoclaimed after the Thoppikkal Tamasha?

Even the Tsunami money went into the pockets of the Sinhala politicians.

So forget about developing the NE. GOSL will never do that. VP or no VP. LTTE or no LTTE, the festering sore will continue until the NE people are able to develop their own region, ie, as an autonomous province or as an independent state:))

Firstly, India training 8000 Tamils and sending them back to Sri Lanka to fight against GOSL was a unforgiveable for any reason and forcing us to Sign agreements there after.

Even after the demise of LTTE, because of TAmilNAdu, INdian Central govt will force GOSL to implement Political solutions.

But, GOSL should understand unlike in India where is 1 billion population, Federalism of Regional govts will not work for Sri Lanka.

Instead, apply those resources to make lives of people better. GOSL need to go over the Tamil politicians who are trying to use the communalist sentiment and to work for people and to promote lives of people economically.

Most probably, INdia will force GOSL to implemet solutions that fits for INdia but not for Sri Lanka, GOSL need to think about that.

An Island nation does not need too many politicians and too much governing.

The Sri Lankan Defence ministry quoted the police as saying that the gunman was injured when the MP?s guards fired back after coming under attack.

However its being suggested that Sri Lankan government authorities may coerce the suspect or the entire arrest may be a drama to pin blame on others.

Now the whole world knows about GOSL's games.....LOL

AAni:

YOu are not honest.

Even in the forum, LTTE is sabotaging and use hit and run attacks in the East. Did you ever condemn that.

Besides, Sri Lanka is not a DEVELOPED country. So, give it time.

Don't think, people in the South are well to do. they have lot of problems. Only thing is, you see and your eyes are open only to what tamils are going through.

You say, you re fighting with the GOSL. then how come Sinhala civilians in Nugegoda get killed.

Even the Tsunami money went into the pockets of the Sinhala politicians.

You dishonesty is at the hype when you say, only sinhala politicians are cheating.

Even the dead Maheswaran sold POTATO to JAFFNA TAMILS at black market prices. He imported those from India with GOSL incentives saying he was importing it for Tamils.
