Alleged Tamil gunman arrested on killing of UNP parliamentarian

An alleged Tamil gunman was arrested today morning (January 01) following the assassination of UNP Colombo district parliamentarian and his body guard, at the Kotahena Sivam Kovil, defence sources reveal.

The alleged gunman was wounded in return fire from a personal security officer of Mr. Maheswaran, Kotahena Police said. The suspect, identified as a resident at general area Gurunagar in Jaffna, is under close custody of Police and receiving treatment at the National hospital- Colombo, sources further added.

Meanwhile, expressing views to defence.lk a political analyst said, the immediate arrest of the gunman has dismantled attempts of opposition party and pro-LTTE agents to cast doubts on the killing of Mr. Maheswaran.

I have a wrong idea about your senses. Now I find you too are not different from Pera in repeating the same 'gon katha'.

Do you really believe IF the junta machinery is behind this killing directly or indirectly, security forces or police (clearly parts of the same junta machinery) will do a genuine inquiry? Obviously they will try their best to cover all the traces.

Man, I can?t believe people behaving this stupid.

	Next MR will order to kill this suspect. reducing security or adding extra will not keep safe always,if CBK,Mangala,Anura and all others can be targets. Maheswaran s last interview made his life short. still some politicians try to keep Tamils ill informed.

It is sad thambi that you have been shot and it was shocking to hear the news as a Fellow Johnian!!

I am happy that i have spoken to you in person and you reminded me the good old days in school and you called me anna and told me all about carrying my cricket bags etc..

We all know your killers will never be caught and it is the life in SL at present specially in Politics.

Whether the police will investigate this case or not, the fact remains that the assassin has been caught red handed and he is a Tamil from Jaffna.

Tamils are very quick to lay the blame on Sinhalese for each and everything that happens under the sun. Today is another very good example.

Before blaming and accusing Sinhalese, Tamils should question themselves why Tamils are exterminating themselves.

Whether its LTTE or EPDP or Karuna or Pilliyan, they are all Tamils..and more importantly, MILITANT.

As long as Tamils bank on Militancy and Terrorism to gain their aspirations and rights, expect thousands more Maheswarans.

Until the day Tamils become fully democratized, this Tamil killing Tamil scenario will continue.
