With classic lack of transparency, the Government has failed to disclose the actual number of people who used public funds to visit New York ? and other US States ? under cover of representing Sri Lanka at the UN General Assembly sessions(UNGA).
This has led to widespread speculation on the figures. UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told LAKBIMAnEWS last week that a grand total of 106 had gone to USA. Other sources said the tally may be around 65.
It is learnt that Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama - who took his wife and daughter on the trip - was questioned about the size of the Sri Lankan delegation during a press conference held at the UN. He replied that there were 39 members.
However, well-placed sources say that 48 people were officially in the delegation for the 62nd UNGA. This includes six ministers - Foreign Affairs Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, Environment Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Social Services Minister Douglas Devananda, Livestock Development Minister C B Ratnayake, and Highways Minister T B Ekanayake. There were three separate groups - Ministerial, Presidential and First Lady.
Authoritative sources said the actual figure was higher because the official list did not include spouses, children and ?dozens of hangers-on?. Apart from Bogollagama?s family, President Mahinda Rajapaksa also took one of his sons. UN sources said that around 50 UN passes had been issued to the Sri Lanka delegation but very few of the delegation had turned up at the UN. As Bogollagama himself admitted at the UN press conference: ?When I walked down the corridors, our delegation was invisible?.
?I think he was trying to convey the message that 39 was not a big figure and that our delegates got lost in the shuffle,? said a commentator at the UN headquarters in New York. ?But he unwittingly proved the case that most of the so-called delegates never turned up at the UN.? The majority of visitors were staying either at the Ritz Carlton or the luxurious Helmsley Park Lane Hotel. Sources said that a couple from London, presumed to be friends of First Lady Shiranthini Rajapaksa, had arrived at the eleventh hour and couldn?t find accommodation at the Ritz. ?One security guy was moved out to share a room with another, so that the couple could be accommodated,? a source revealed.
?The question that will never be answered is how many rooms were occupied at the Ritz Carlton and how many Sri Lankans and expatriates were paid their per diem and allowances courtesy the state during their stay here,? commented another UN source who opted to remain anonymous. Also listed in the official delegation were 14 security officers, six Foreign Ministry officials, eleven media personnel (strangely, Presidential Advisor A H M Azwer was also in this category), personal aides and some doctors. The First Lady also took her beautician.

Traitor Ranil's Uncle JR issued a Presidential Pardon for this RAPIST because JR's Little Nephew Traitor Ranil Wanted him appointed as an all Island JP.........in addition to the CONVICTED RAPISTS Normal Function as CEO of the Education Ministry..........And Traitor Ranil was later Elevated to the UNP Leadership.......Gonawala Sunil was also got caught red handed stealing petrolium from sapugaskanda......but let's ignore that issue for the time being because ANUSam wants hard FACTS....and COURT Orders are the BEST FACTS since Public can access court orders against criminals..........
The IMPORTANT POINT to note is that TRAITOR RANIL was ELEVATED to the UNP leadership AFTER the Traitor Recommended RAPE CONVICT Gonawala Sunil as ALL ISLAND Justice of the Peace.....

SO The Morale of the Story is this: In the UNP the very person (i.e. Traitor Ranil) who appointed a hardcore criminal RAPE CONVICT to the Position of JP is Made Party leader.......
But in the SLFP, Mervin never got his way.....
Atleast mervin never asked for Presidential Pardons for Criminal's like Traitor Ranil........
Bottom Line: MERVIN with all his Mistakes is Far Superior to Traitor Ranil.....

it is not upto me to get these Sanctions implemented. MR is doing a great job getting these implemented all by himself. In our recent history never has another country thorugh about imposing sanctions against us. Even if the Sanctions are not implemented - the fact that other coountires are considering sanctions is AMPLE proof of how MR has messed up this country.

Can you please tell us what 'wheele deals' Subasingha was involved in please? He is one of the most respected Srilankans living in the US. At one time he was a VP at JP morgan Stanley in charge of all of its operations in South America. A man cant get to that level in an Organization like JP morgan if he was a 'wheele dealer'. One very important thing to Remember is - Subasingha didnt work at 7'11 grocery stores like some people we know!! :) :)

Chief Justice Sarath Nanda Silva dismissed all the Politically Motivated Tsunomi Fund Cahrges against Mahinda...........Kabir Hashim was aksed to pay costs. CJ of Sri Lanka has closed the case. Those are the FACTS. It was UNP leader Premadasa who said that the Prime Minister's powers were like that of an office peon. And CBK and ANURA as Prsident and Cabinet Minister went all out to Nail Mahinda on the Tsunomi fund issue......
The FACTs are that according to the law of the land the case was concluded to the full satisfaction of the Honerable Cheif Justice Sarath Nanda Silva..............
By the way, If By any chance Traitor Ranil/Kabir Hashim/and ANUSam want to Bring up the Tsonomi Fund Allegations again, We are EVER ready....Infact we would love it and will Fully Support a Parliametary Select Committee Appointed By Senior UNP'er and Speaker of the Parliament W J M Lokubandara..........Why doesn't ANUSam and Traitor Ranil take up this issue at the International Level???? Either at the ICJ or a similar Forum. We are Ready......Bringing the Issue at on the LNP forum is simply not Sufficient............

NO ONE in the SLFP has EVER Appointed CONVICTED CRIMINIAL RAPISTS or CONVICTED MURDER's to any position what so ever..........
Where as Traitor Ranil of the UNP not Only Obtains Pardons and later Appoints CONVICTED CRIMINAL RAPISTS to Responsible Public Positions, But is also later REWARDED by being Appointed as UNP Leader......
And ANUSam says he love FACTs!! so those are the HARD FACTS!!
