A woman carrying an infant and walking on the railway track near the Horape station, was killed on the spot when a Fort-bound passenger train knocked her down on Sunday.
But, little Kasun Priyantha had survived without having even a bruise. Police identified the victim as 54-year-old grandmother of the two-and-half year-old boy. As the train had hit her, he had been thrown away.
Fortunately the infant had been flung away from the track, police said, asserting that the woman had not heard the approaching train.
She had taken the child to the Horape railway station as his parents had not returned from Colombo.
