Lankan News Replies

Christian clergy in Sri Lanka have expressed serious concern over the violence in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.
In an open letter to the Ambassador for Myanmar in Sri Lanka, Rt Revd Duleep de Chickera, the Anglican Bishop in Colombo, has expressed solidarity with the protesting Buddhist monks in Myanmar.

`As a fellow religious leader, I wish to express my solidarity with the commendable leadership provided by the Buddhist monks of Myanmar to this mass agitation,` the letter said.

Actually wick it's probably not. the anglican church of myanmar receives contributions made by the sri lankan anglican community. the burmese archbishop visited sri lanka a couple of years ago and i had a chance to talk with him in person. as christian disidents are also targets of the military regime, it would seem this is not just 'crocodile tears'.

The damn church in Sri Lanka are opportunists.

There is enough to worry about in Sri Lanka but they are concerned to sling mud at buddhist.

The church is attempting to tear the SL community apart and wonder who had given them the contract ?

Disgraceful christians............

I think what is happening in Burma is an internal matter, and it is political. If international community wants to get involved they can do so thru UN or neighbouring countries.

There is no place for other religious organizations to get involved though buddhist monks are involed in the problem.

What sri lankan chruch is trying to do is fishing in troubled water, as always they are doing in ohter third world countries.

I think some of you would be well advised to examine your assumptions about the 'church'. the church is not some monolithic entity as some of you make it out to be. the anglicans in sri lanka are not the same as the anglicans in australia. likewise the anglicans in sl are not the same as the evangelicals or AOGs or catholics. perhaps the anglicans and catholics are more similar in belief and outlook but even they differ on a number of key issues. and again, what the bishops and archbishops declare from the pulpit is not what the layperson thinks or believes. to just call everything 'THE CHURCH' and to blame this 'CHURCH' of plotting conspiracies against the Buddhists is stupid and likely to create uneccessary problems for all concerned. All Chikera said was that he supports the actions of the monks in their peaceful protest against the military regime.

Church support is appreciated.
One thing is clear. The junta leader in Myanmar is trying to receive the same fate that Saddham Husain had.

The church or temple should not get involved in political affairs of another country.

It should re-evaluate its role as a religious entity.

Church Likes it and support it because it is the discipline of Buddhist monks that is question, and for monks the discipline is of utmost importance.

So, they like to see buddhism disintegrates.

Disgraceful Buddhists had led this country to a disaster?

Do not forget that you people were Buddhists at some point in the history if you were Sri Lankans.

And Christians and Muslims were intruders I mean religions.
