Freedom1, machang you were saying about the Thai police....
Instead, the Thai police is fairly amazing. Mostly they catch criminals within hours. If not, they remain on the case and come up with results months later. Of course, corruption is not unknown, but they have a lot of pride and they get respect for doing a good job.
Today, this system has been officially changed, but in reality, the system of 'skimming off the top' has continued and expanded into all segments of society. It has expanded to include getting preferential services in government offices, getting government contracts and even getting your child enrolled in 'good' schools. As an example, police all over Thailand set up roadblocks with the main intention being to extort money from people for real or imagined offences. Rarely though, is a Mercedes or other type of car belonging to someone possibly rich pulled over and forced to pay bribes to police on the street. The risk of retaliation from the 'big people' is too great. From the street, the money gets passed up through the ranks, with each person taking a piece of the pie.

Subsequent to the killing the LTTE launched a false propaganda campaign alleging that the killing was perpetrated by the Army
He was killed by Deep Penetration Unit of MI. There is no secret that SLA targetted Christian priests many times before.
Even during 2000/2001 Ceasefire between LTTE and SLA, DPU was killing LTTE cadres and civilians alike. The MI, Army of the govt never admitted the existance of DPU, instead, they put the blame on some imaginary 'breakaway group of LTTE' until police raid on Safe House and exposed Govt complexity.
Now DPU is in action and also was responsible for killing 62 civilians travelling towards Anuradhapura but blamed on LTTE.
Unless the govt stop clandestine methods to kill people you do not know the perpetrators of these types of hyenous crimes.

Moby,

Well my friend, i have done loads of kilometers even over to Burma a few times and nothing like that had been seen.
All i noticed on busy Phuket is that they stop bikers without a helmet and charge them some fees. Of course there is corruption like in every Asian country, but it seems as well organized as all other local mafia businesses. Tuks, drugs, prostitution, bar licenses and so on.
What i do like is a first class combat against ordinary street crime like muggers, rapists and robbers so that people feel safe here.
There is sort of a common sense. All have a right to earn money, but also everyone has to understand the rules in order to maintain a smooth and profitable business.

If Kadir was killed by LTTE as the Govt wants everybody to belive, why hasn't the govt prosecuters produced the suspect and try the case in a court of law?
Why does the govt try to be the prosecuter, judge and jury, unless of course the 2.5 year long investigations point the finger at the security forces and a coverup has become inevitable? |

There are contrasts and comparisons between Sri Lanka and Burma.
1 Contrast.
Burmise Buddhist monks march in favour of bringing prices down , peace and love.
SL monks march infavour of war and annihilation of minorities.
2. Comparison
The police shoot civilians and kill them and both govts support their police forces. |
