Nedumaran arrested with 500 supporters

Tamil Nationalist Movement (TNM) leader P Nedumaran was arrested alongwith 500 volunteers in Nagapattinam town in Tamil Nadu state today when they tried to proceed to Sri Lanka in boats with medicines and essential commodities to `help the suffering Tamils` in the island nation.
Addressing the volunteers, Nedumaran said he tried his best to send the supplies to Tamils in the Jaffna peninsula through the Red Cross Society, but his efforts became futile because Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh`s government refused permission.
The maverick Tamil Nadu politician said he had no other option but to observe a fast-unto-death if no help is made available to the fellow Tamils in Sri Lanka`s northern province.
Meanwhile, another batch of TNM volunteers began an indefinite fast in Rameswaram when the police denied permission to them to sail to Sri Lanka, and refused to arrest them.
The TNM activists had collected medicines and food items to carry them in boats to Sri Lanka from Nagapattinam and Rameswaram in violation of rules.
Armed police personnel were deployed in Tamil Nadu`s coastal areas as Nedumaran and his supporters arrived at Nagapattinam on Tuesday.

If had come to SL today,our forces whould have shot him dead.Mahinda was waiting for him.But unfortunaely he didnt turn up.It is VP who killed Rajeev.It is VP who is behind Hyderabad bombs which killed scores of Indians.But he is giving food to VP.He should have brought punnakku to VP & LTTE.

During the attempt to travell to Jaffna by thousands of tamils,which was forcebly prevented by the TN police and Indian Navy, some participants lead by the fiery Tamil leader-Puthukkodai PAAVAANAN,boarded forcibly, three of the four Indian Navy vessels and wanted take those artillery naval vessels to Jaffna. |

stop your terrorist theory , that wont work out of srilanka . The GoSL suppose to supply food and medicine to its citizens , when the government failed and forcefully put the people into killing mode , teh GoSL deserve the name terrorist than any others . |

One politician is not different from the other. He knew that he will be arrested, he is trying to keep his popularity among his voters and earn a few more.
The only cause he is fighting for is his own. As a secondary effect Tamils might have some benefit but his objective is his own political survival. |

when it comes to food and medicine and the peelamist are Citizens of GOSL.

Either way this is a win for us, this should at least raise pro SL Tamil sentiments in Tamil Nadu given the treatment.
