my Sources in SL want to know whether anybody has set up a local bank account or a scholarship fund to receive further donations apart from LNP contribuions.

Not at the moment, but Lalith may set one up. I'll let him answer it.

By the way i see heavy protest about the govt dude(malimagea) here. No worries, lalith is tactful to use them if he has to. we'll make sure nobody will get any un-deserved press for this.
I have already contacted MP of Bibile and few provincial council members. They are going to visit the family this weekend and assured fullest support to build a house for this family.
If other members agree, we can send this money directly to provincial council member of that village. :-) |

Hi members & Mr. Brown,
Dont involve the Local authorities, Try to get it done otherwise.
And leave the donation for a while open, may be we can even get this Family a fixed account setup so at least the kids can go to school and finish their education.
I am always for small projects than the bigger ones.
So let us vote and go for a complete packet.
1. A reasonable small house for them to live
2. A fixed account at the nearest bank to make sure the Family has the basics so the children does not need to go begging.

Thanks. I will get back to you today somehow.

And to all who have made donations my sincere thanks.
Please do not worry about the Govt Officials or other hijackers. When the intentions are well and good the man upstairs alway come through and stand by us.
Mr.Brown as Pluto suggested we will open an account where two persons have to sign to withdraw. It will be the most nearby bank so that it will cut down travel time.
I hope the Govt officers would not put preassure on Mr.Ekanayke and quits the handling of this.
If that is the we would have to take the matter to a higher office bring notice to the interfering officers. If they are not on the sabotage mode we will get all the help and utilize what ever assistance they offer.
At this rate we might come close to have a colection of 4-5 Lakhs in Sri Lanka Rs. by COB Monday.
The Top priority here is to some how get that little hut repaired and livable for the lady and the kids. The excess money will be deposited in the Bank and try to work out with the Ministry of Housing to allocate a patch of Land where a permamanet house can be build.
Some members wrote to an wanted to go for a bigger house. Here is what I wrote.:
Buying a house in that area is no easy thing.
First we have to find out if this family want to up root where they are living now and move to another location. They could be living with their relation and elders of the village now. Though they don't have the means to look after this family.
Second can we ask Kumara to do everything? He is a teacher by profession and can he neglect and go house hunting.
Let say we find a decent house for the money we have. We have to do Title search in the Badulla kacheri and see that there are no Lien or encumbrances and caveats for that land. It has to be surveyed and land marks erected.
If we go that route we would have to pay lawyers & Surveyors too. Do we want to do that.I am not discouraging the idea what I am saying is it cannot be done over nite.

He is a very busy business person but he will do what ever I ask him. I am sure he is willing to make the trip anytime. So please call him and set up a date soon.
