Twelve bodies of civilians killed in Silawathurai battle handed over by ICRC to hospital

(LeN 2007 Sep. 03, 5.40 PM) ICRC handed over 12 corpses of civilians who were killed by a claymore while travelling in a van to government-controlled territory from Silawathurai that was captured by the Army yesterday (02).

A spokesperson of Mannar hospital said that there were three children among dead and four bodies were identified by relatives yesterday before Mannar magistrate T.J. Prabhakaran. The identified were 24 year old Selvakumar, his wife 25 year old Princy Selvakumar, their son four year old Remeshan Selvakumar and Jesudasan Elizabeth, mother of Princy.

Pro-LTTE Tamilnet reported that a claymore set off by an Army Deep Penetration Unit killed these civilians. However, the Army says that the claymore was set off by the LTTE.
