| Freedom1 Why can't Tamils come up with a different strategy and hand over their guns to an Asian UN Peace force that will help the Sri Lankan army to protect the Sri Lankan Tamils.

Nation,
America didn't do better after Katrina, but SLA, police and government had messed up badly.
At least LTTE had been able to prevent looting, gang rapes and other ugly stuff that went on in the South for much too long whilst units in Kandy had been wondering why they had not been sent to the coast.

right! To me it just looks like the two leaders have not brought their people any further over the last two years.

if you think there is some leaders in the south within the SLFP or the UNP who can solve the problem amicably, you are wrong. not even ranil could solve the issue. he be shot by a monk just like what happened to bandaranaika in the 60s.
ranil sign the CFA to save the economy but never implemented in the first 2 years of his rule. he waited to get sacked by CBK.
now NO cfa and economy.

Tiger Lady
very serious :-) VP is a capable man, no doubt and i do not have like him to say that.
But the world is changing and his strategy expires apart from the militant point.
Any civilized member on this board will agree, that it is the prime job of the Sri Lankan army to protect all Sri Lankan citizens.
Obviously some UN Peacecorp would be the most efficient and an easy to accept solution for both parties.
If LTTE would lay down their guns like IRA there would not be the slightest justification for doing any damage to any Tamil citizens.
For example a few thousand peace corps from China would handle such a mission with ease making it even an International success story for entire Asia right in time for the Olympic games.
Good for SL and good for China, the biggest tourism factor in the world.
VP and Mahinda should invite Chinese peace corps and stop the killing. So easy! |

Freedom,
I too think that an UN peaceful army is better than SLA to protect Tamils.
SLA did to much atrocities to Tamils, and will definitely continue in the future as they can do with total IMPUNITY !
That's the problem, IC is unfortunately PASSIVE. And sanctions against SL by UN still do not come. I hope EU will do a good move in this sense. |

Freedom
the trust is not there to put the arms down.
renouncing violent and putting the arms down is two different things. IRA completely decommissioned it self once the final deal is reached with the UK. |

shot by a monk just like what happened to bandaranaika in the 60s.
Any important leader in SL should better have some 50 Gurkhas as body guards.
Btw. how do you rate the assassination of the Tamil Foreign Minister Kadegama ?
One wealthy Tamil dude had been raving in front of me 'nice kill'
I said, hey man, this is murder! If it would be a fictional movie, well, ok.
LTTE always denied responsibility for that if i am correct. |

Kural is right. IC can not do a thing.
The reason is simply the miserable branding of the LTTE. No one can expect any democratic country to support the Sri Lankan Tamils.
If the Chinese government would accept such a mission, you can be sure, that they will not allow any failure by any means.
With professional Chinese troops i would have a lot of confidence, especially on an important International mission in a strategically important region at the doorstep to India.
Any dead Tamil would be considered as a National disgrace. I am sure, Berty will agree on that. China is keen and ready for International activities.
